Nopah Range
The Nopah Range is a mountain range located in Inyo County, California, United States, near the eastern border with Nevada. Geography The mountain range lies east of the adjacent Resting Spring Range, the Owlshead Mountains and lower Death Valley, and are north of the Kingston Range. The Amargosa River is to the west. They are located directly east of Shoshone, California, and the Chicago Valley, northeast of Tecopa, California, southwest of Pahrump, Nevada, and west of Las Vegas, Nevada. The Nopah Range reaches an elevation of 6,395 feet above sea level at Nopah Peak, in the center of the range. The Nopah Range is approximately 26 miles long. Wilderness The Nopah Range Wilderness consists of 106,623 acres of the mountain range. Established in 1994 by the U.S. Congress, the wilderness area is managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Pahrump, Nevada
Pahrump ( ) is an unincorporated town located at the southernmost tip of Nye County, Nevada, United States, about west of Las Vegas, Nevada. Pahrump lies adjacent to the Nevada–California border and the area had a population of 44,738 as of the 2020 census. History Pahrump was originally inhabited by the Southern Paiute. It was slowly inhabited by settlers in the late 19th century. They reportedly chose the name for Pahrump after the original Southern Paiute name ''Pah-Rimpi'', or "Water Rock," so named because of the abundant artesian wells in the valley. Because of the artesian wells, the new inhabitants of Pahrump Valley began a number of large ranch-style holdings, mostly over in size. Tecopa, California
Tecopa (formerly Brownsville) is a census-designated place (CDP) in the Mojave Desert, in Inyo County, California, United States. Tecopa is located south-southeast of Shoshone, at an elevation of . The population was 150 at the 2010 census, up from 99 at the 2000 census. One of Tecopa's popular features is its natural hot springs. Tecopa was named after the Paiute leader Chief Tecopa. Kingston Peak is the only named peak in the Kingston Range, a small desert mountain range in San Bernardino County, California, in the Mojave Desert. The highest point in the Kingston Range's 17-mile U-shaped continuous ridgeline, the peak has an elevation of and a topographic prominence of . Kingston Peak's prominence makes it among the top 200 mountains by prominence in the contiguous United States, and the 23rd most prominent peak in California. California State Route 127
State Route 127 (SR 127) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that connects Interstate 15 in Baker to Nevada State Route 373 at the Nevada state line, passing near the eastern boundary of Death Valley National Park. The entire length of the highway closely follows the central portion of the former Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad and loosely follows the Amargosa River. Nopah Peak is the highest named mountain in the Nopah Range, a mountain range in Inyo County, California, in the Mojave Desert just west of the state border with Nevada. The peak has an elevation of and a topographic prominence of . It boasts steep escarpments to both east and west, rising more than in approximately 0.75 miles from the desert floor of Chicago Valley to the west and a drop-off almost as steep to the east. Shoshone, California
Shoshone is a census designated place (CDP) in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 22 at the 2020 census, down from 31 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1910. Although small, it is notable as a southern gateway to Death Valley National Park; in addition to being a junction of roads leading from Baker, California and Pahrump, Nevada, it has the last services available before the Furnace Creek area in the park.
