Noord-Scharwoude
Noord-Scharwoude ( West Frisian: ''Noôrd-Skerwou'') is a village in the municipality of Dijk en Waard in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. History The village was first mentioned in 1094 as Bernardeskercha. The current name means "northern forest belonging to Schoorl". Noord (north) was added to distinguish from Zuid-Scharwoude. Noord-Scharwoude developed in the 11th century as a linear settlement on a dike. The Catholic John the Baptist church is a three aisled basilica-like church built between 1905 and 1906 as a replacement of an 1856 church. Noord-Scharwoude was home to 634 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1941, when the new municipality Langedijk was created. There used to be a tram line to Alkmaar which was used to transport vegetables to the auction in the village. In 1934, the tram line closed and was reconstructed as a road. Zuid-Scharwoude
Zuid-Scharwoude ( West Frisian: ''Sûd-Skerwou'') is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is located in the municipality of Dijk en Waard, about 8 km northwest of Alkmaar. History The village was first mentioned in 1094 as Sudrekercha. The current name means "southern forest near Schoorl". Zuid (south) was added to distinguish from Noord-Scharwoude. Zuid-Scharwoude developed in the 11th century as a linear settlement along a dike. The Dutch Reformed church was built in the 15th century as a replacement of a 12th century church, and renovated in 1819. In 1905, the tower collapsed and the church was shortened with a build-in tower. Zuid-Scharwoude was home to 626 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1941, when it became a part of Langedijk. It used to be the capital of Langedijk. North Holland
North Holland ( nl, Noord-Holland, ) is a province of the Netherlands in the northwestern part of the country. It is located on the North Sea, north of South Holland and Utrecht, and west of Friesland and Flevoland. In November 2019, it had a population of 2,877,909 and a total area of , of which is water. Schoorl
Schoorl is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Bergen, North Holland, Bergen, and lies about 8 km northwest of Alkmaar. Until 2001, Schoorl was also a municipality of its own. Schoorl is a village in between the polder area of North Holland and the Kennemer dunes. The village is about 8 km (5mls) long and never wider than 2 km (1mls). The village is heavily protected by the highest and widest dunes of the Netherlands, which reach about 54 m (164 ft) above sealevel right behind the center of Schoorl, and are more than 5 km (3mls) wide. Schoorl is a major local tourism location in the summer and counts over 25 campsites, the largest concentration of campsites in the Netherlands.
