Nogaro
Nogaro (; Gascon: ''Nogaròu'') is a commune in the Gers department, Southwestern France. It is the site of a distillery of Armagnac brandy. Geography The commune is bordered by six other communes: Caupenne-d'Armagnac to the northwest, Sainte-Christie-d'Armagnac to the northeast, Loubédat to the east, Sion, Gers, Sion to the southeast, Urgosse to the south, and finally by Arblade-le-Haut to the west. Population Sports Nogaro is the site of Circuit Paul Armagnac, a motorsport race track. Notable people The historian and palaeographer Charles Samaran (1879–1982) died in Nogaro. The chef and television host Michel Sarran was born in Nogaro. The tennis player Tessah Andrianjafitrimo has lived in Nogaro since 2010. Circuit Paul Armagnac
Circuit Paul Armagnac also known as Circuit de Nogaro is a motorsport race track located in the commune of Nogaro in the Gers department in southwestern France. The track is named in honor of Nogaro-born racing driver Paul Armagnac who died in an accident during practice for the 1962 1000 km de Paris at the Montlhéry circuit. History Motorsports racing events in Nogaro were first organized when racing driver Paul Armagnac and Robert Castagnon created the Association Sportive Automobile de l'Armagnac. In 1953 the Rallye de l'Armagnac was held on a street circuit using public roads around Nogaro. Public safety concerns after the 1955 Le Mans disaster caused the number of road racing events on public roads in Europe to decrease. Plans were made to create a permanent race circuit and construction began in 1959 at a site near the Nogaro airport. Tessah Andrianjafitrimo
Tessah Andrianjafitrimo (born 11 October 1998) is a French professional female tennis player of Malagasy descent. She was born in Montpellier, France. On 20 June 2022, she reached her highest WTA singles ranking of 139. Andrianjafitrimo has won six singles and two doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. Personal life Her father, Teddy Andrianjafitrimo, was born in Madagascar. Teddy was an excellent amateur tennis player. A tennis champion of Madagascar and Africa, he did not become a professional tennis player because of lacking financial support to do so. Charles Samaran
Charles Samaran (28 October 1879 – 15 October 1982) was a 20th-century French historian and archivist, who was born in Cravencères (in the Gers) and died at Nogaro (also in the Gers), shortly before his 103rd birthday. Biography Having graduated as an archivist-palaeographer in 1901 with a thesis devoted to the House of Armagnac then working as a member of the École française de Rome (1901–1903), Charles Samaran became an archivist at the Archives nationales. In 1908 he published ''Les diplômes originaux des Mérovingiens'', "an extraordinary achievement by a young palaeographer who would remain until his old age an infallible decipherer of difficult texts", a collection which played a key role in the study of Merovingian scriptures.
