Noelia Lorenzo (Née Noelia Lorenzo Monge; born August 31, 1979) mostly known as Noelia, is a Puerto Rican pop singer who rose to fame in 1999. Her self-titled debut album was certified as a RIAA gold album in the United States. During her career she has had ten Latin ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' Top 40 hits and Five Top 40 ''Billboard'' Dance/Club Play Songs. She is a Latin ''Billboard'' Award Winner. Latin music (Portuguese and es, música latina) is a term used by the music industry as a catch-all category for various styles of music from Ibero-America (including Spain and Portugal) and the Latino United States inspired by Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese music genres, as well as music that is sung in either Spanish and/or Portuguese. Terminology and categorization Because the majority of Latino immigrants living in New York City in the 1950s were of Puerto Rican or Cuban descent, "Latin music" had been stereotyped as music simply originating from the Spanish Caribbean. Fonovisa Records is an American Spanish language record label founded in 1984 by Guillermo Santiso as a subsidiary of Televisa. Its former name before being acquired by Televisa in 1984 was Profono Internacional, which was founded in 1978. Fonovisa mainly produces Mexican style music. It is well known for its signing with artists such as Los Tigres Del Norte, Los Bukis, Los Temerarios, Enrique Iglesias, Lucero and Thalía. In late 2002, Fonovisa was acquired from Televisa by the Univision Music Group. Fonovisa was owned by the Univision Music Group until May 2008 when it was bought by Universal Music Group. Top Latin Albums is a record chart published by ''Billboard'' magazine and is labeled as the most important music chart for Spanish language, full-length albums in the American music market. Like all ''Billboard'' album charts, the chart is based on sales. Nielsen SoundScan compiles the sales data from merchants representing more than 90 percent of the U.S. music retail market. The sample includes sales at music stores, the music departments of electronics and department stores, direct-to-consumer transactions, and Internet sales of physical albums or digital downloads. A limited array of verifiable sales from concert venues is also tabulated. To rank on this chart, an album must have 51% or more of its content recorded in Spanish. "Tú" () is a song performed by the Puerto Rican singer Noelia, taken from her debut studio album of the same name (1999). The song was released as her debut single and it was written by Estéfano with minor uncredited lyrics by Noelia. The song reached No. 5 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Latin Tracks chart, becoming her most successful singles on that chart and it is her signature song. Fabio Alonso Salgado, better known as Estéfano (born 19 August 1966 in Manizales, Colombia) is a Colombian musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. Along with Donato Poveda formed the duo Donato y Estefano, releasing three studio albums through 1995–1999. After the duo disbanded he went on to pursue a solo career with his album ''Código Personal: A Media Vida'' released in 2005. Estéfano has worked with Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Shakira, Malú, Alexandre Pires, Enrique Iglesias, Gloria Estefan, Jon Secada, Paulina Rubio, Anahí, Noelia, Chayanne, Jerry Rivera and Thalía, among others. Since October 2012, chart rankings are based on digital sales, radio airplay, and online streaming, and only predominantly Spanish language songs are allowed to rank. The chart was established by the magazine on September 6, 1986, and was originally based on airplay on Latin music radio stations.
