Noel Johnson (basketball)
Noel Dawn Johnson (December 1, 1972 – June 9, 2020) was an American basketball player and the head coach of the Midwestern State Mustangs women's basketball team. She played for the national championship Texas Tech Lady Raiders basketball, Texas Tech Lady Raiders in 1993. Early years Johnson was a West Texas native, born in Shamrock, Texas, to Dean and Agatha Johnson, and then growing up in Kelton, Texas. During her junior year in high school, her family moved to Nazareth, Texas, where she played basketball for Nazareth High School (Texas), Nazareth High. She helped her team win two class 1-A state titles in basketball. College Johnson attended Texas Tech University and played for four years on the women's basketball team. The Lady Raiders won the Southwest Conference all four years, were invited to the NCAA postseason tournament all four years, making it at least as far as the Sweet Sixteen each year, and won the national championship in 1993. Shamrock, Texas
Shamrock is a city in Wheeler County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 1,910. The city is located in the eastern portion of the Texas Panhandle centered along the crossroads of Interstate 40 (formerly U.S. Route 66) and U.S. Route 83. It is east of Amarillo, west of Oklahoma City, and northwest of Dallas. History Located in south-central Wheeler County, Shamrock was the largest town in the county in the late 19th century. George and Dora Nickel consented to keep the first post office in their dugout there in 1890. The mail was to be carried once a week from Mobeetie, Texas. The neighbors decided to let George name the office. His Irish-American mother had told him always to depend on a shamrock to bring him good luck, so holding true to his Irish descent, he suggested "Shamrock" for the name of the office.
