''Nobody Nowhere: The Extraordinary Autobiography of an Autistic Girl'' is the award-nominated debut book by Australian Donna Williams. It was initially published in Britain in 1992, and was on the ''New York Times'' Best Seller list for 15 weeks in the first half of 1993. ''Nobody Nowhere'' covers Williams' life from as far back as she can remember (three years old). At times, she was thought to be deaf, psychotic, disturbed, or retarded, but only as an adult did she discover that her difficulty interfacing with the world around her was related to autism. It ends with her leaving the manuscript behind with a UK child psychiatrist, Sebastian Kraemer, who sent it on to autism specialist Frances Tustin, who was responsible for its eventual publication. Donna Leanne Williams, also known by her married name Donna Leanne Samuel (born Donna Keene; 12 October 1963 – 22 April 2017), was an Australian writer, artist, singer-songwriter, screenwriter, and sculptor. In 1965, aged two, Williams was assessed as "Psychosis, psychotic". During the rest of her childhood, she was tested multiple times for deafness and labelled as "disturbed". In 1991, she was diagnosed as Autism, autistic and also underwent treatment for gut, immune system and Sensory processing disorder, sensory perceptual disorders. An autobiography, sometimes informally called an autobio, is a self-written account of one's own life. It is a form of biography. Frances Tustin
Frances Tustin (born Frances Daisy Vickers; 1913 in Northern England) was a pioneering child psychotherapist renowned for her work with children with autism in the 1950s. She became a teacher and began studying psychoanalysis in 1943 at the University of London. Following the war, in 1950 she began the child psychotherapy training headed by the psychoanalyst Esther Bick in the children's department of London's Tavistock Clinic, which was chaired by the pioneer in child development John Bowlby.
