Nobile (aristocracy)
Nobile, traditionally abbreviated to Nob., is an Italian hereditary title borne by a noble who ranks similarly or just below a baron, similar to the rank of Baronet in England or Ritter in Germany.J. H. Pinches: "European Nobility and Heraldry", ''Heraldry Today'' 1994, p. 146 Unlike higher Italian titles which are typically referred to in lieu of an individual's name, ''nobile'' is used immediately before the given and surnames, usually in the abbreviated form ''Nob.''. The word “nobile” is derived from the Latin “nobilis”, meaning ''honourable''. It is often abbreviated to "N.H." for men or "N.D." for women, just prior to the first name, and such noblemen are styled "Your/His Lordship". The heraldic coronet of a ''nobile'' consists of a jewelled circlet of gold surmounted by five pearls, either on stems or set directly upon the rim. The armorial shield of a ''nobile'' is surmounted by a silver helm displayed in a ¾ side-view and surmounted by the coronet already desc ...

Nobile (crater)
Nobile is a lunar impact crater that is located near the southern pole of the Moon. It lies to the south of the crater Scott, along the western rim of Amundsen. Between Nobile and the southern pole lie the smaller craters Shoemaker and Faustini. This is an eroded crater formation that is almost constantly cloaked in deep shadows. When sunlight does enter the interior of this crater, it does so at a very oblique angle. The crater rim is overlaid by several lesser craters, the most notable being a formation about half the diameter of Nobile along the western rim. There are also small craters along the southwest and northern parts of the rim. The outer rampart of Amundsen overlies the eastern rim and inner wall. The interior floor of this crater is somewhat irregular, and there are a few small craterlets across the surface. Nobile was previously designated Scott A before being assigned a name by the IAU. On 20 September 2021, NASA selected the western edge of Nobile as the ...

Umberto Nobile
Umberto Nobile (; 21 January 1885 – 30 July 1978) was an Italian aviator, aeronautical engineer and Arctic explorer. Nobile was a developer and promoter of semi-rigid airships in the years between the two World Wars. He is primarily remembered for designing and piloting the airship ''Norge'', which may have been the first aircraft to reach the North Pole, and which was indisputably the first to fly across the polar ice cap from Europe to America. Nobile also designed and flew the ''Italia,'' a second polar airship; this second expedition ended in a deadly crash and provoked an international rescue effort. Early career Umberto Nobile was born in Lauro, in the southern Italian province of Avellino, into a family of small landowners. His father Vincenzo, a civil servant, belonged to the cadet branch of an aristocratic family that had been stripped of its titles after the Italian unification over their continuing loyalty to the deposed Bourbons, and which had adopted the Nob ...

Nobiles
The ''nobiles'' ( ''nobilis'') were members of a social rank in the Roman Republic indicating that one was "well known". This may have changed over time: in Cicero's time, one was notable if one descended from a person who had been elected Roman consul, consul. In earlier periods and more broadly, this may have included a larger group consisting of those who were Patrician (ancient Rome), patricians, were descended from patricians who had become plebeians via ''transitio ad plebem'', or were descended from plebeians who had held Curule seat#Ancient Rome, curule offices. History The ''nobiles'' emerged after the Conflict of the Orders established legal equality between patricians and plebeians, allowing plebeians to hold all the Roman magistrate, magistracies; the state of being "known" was connected to the ''nobiless rights to funeral masks ( la, imagines) and actors in aristocratic funeral processions. However, the term is largely unattested to in the middle Republic, having been ...
