Noakhailla
Noakhailla (), also known by the exonym Noakhalian, is a dialect of Bengali, spoken by an estimated 7 million people, primarily in the Greater Noakhali region of Bangladesh as well as southern parts of Tripura in India. Outside of these regions, there are substantial numbers of Noakhailla speakers in other parts of Bangladesh; as well as diaspora communities in the Middle East, Italy, Europe and the United States. Though it is considered a Bengali dialect, some have labelled it as ''undecipherable'' to speakers of Standard Bengali and that it has a "''vague''" relationship with it. Noakhailla dialect has no presence in formal settings, neither in Bangladesh nor India, though its standardisation has been prospected. Noakhali
Noakhali ( bn, নোয়াখালী, , New canal), historically known as Bhulua ( bn, ভুলুয়া), is a district in southeastern Bangladesh, located in the Chittagong Division. It was established as district in 1821, and officially named Noakhali in 1868. Its headquarters lie in the town of Maijdee, making Noakhali the only district of Bangladesh that isn't named after its town name. Etymology and names The name of Noakhali District comes from the town of Noakhali (নোয়াখালী), which was the former headquarters of the old district. It is a compound of two words; ''Noa'' (meaning new in Noakhailla) and ''Khali'' (a diminutive of ''khal'' meaning canal). The history behind its naming is traced back to a canal that was dug in the 1660s in response to devastating floods which had affected the area's agricultural activities. Bhulua Kingdom
The Kingdom of Bhulua ( bn, ভুলুয়া রাজ্য, Bhulua Rajjo) was a kingdom covering the present-day Noakhali region of Bangladesh. Its establishment is generally credited to Bishwambhar Sur, a Hindu Rajput who passed by the area during a pilgrimage. The kingdom fell under Tripura vassalage in the 15th century, and was reduced to a ''zamindari'' (fiefdom) after losing to the Mughals. Most of the kingdom's land has been eroded by the Meghna River. Origin It is said that the former Rajas of this region were Kayasthas from modern-day West Bengal. Traditions assert that Bishwambhar Sur, the ninth son of Adi Sura of Mithila, was of Rajput ancestry. Chittagong Division, officially known as Chattogram Division, is geographically the largest of the eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh.
