Noah Davis (judge)
Noah Davis (September 10, 1818 – March 20, 1902) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life Davis was born in Haverhill, New Hampshire on September 10, 1818, the son of Noah Davis (1781–1863) and Freelove Crawford (Arnold) Davis. He was the grandson of Jonathan Arnold and the nephew of Lemuel Hastings Arnold. Davis's family moved to Albion, New York in 1825, and he attended Lima Seminary in Buffalo, New York. Then he studied law in Lewiston, New York, was admitted to the bar in 1841, and practiced in Gainesville, New York, and Buffalo. He returned to Albion in February 1844 and practiced law in partnership with Sanford E. Church. In 1857, he was appointed to the New York Supreme Court (8th District) to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James Mullett, and was subsequently elected to two eight-year terms, but resigned in 1868 after his election to Congress. Noah Davis (Baptist Minister)
Noah Davis (March 1804–April 7, 1867) was a Baptist minister, who was a former enslaved person that purchased his and his family members' freedom. He established the Second Colored Baptist Church in Baltimore. He spoke at lectures in the north and published ''A Narrative of the Life of Rev. Noah Davis, a Colored Man'' to raise money to free his wife and children. Early life Noah Davis was born in March 1804 in Madison County, Virginia. He was born into slavery. His parents were Jane Davis and John Davis, who was a head miller, a coveted position. Robert Patten, the family's enslaver, owned a large mill near Fredericksburg. Davis said Patten was generous and his father "enjoyed many more privileges than many others". By the time he was twelve years old, he decided that he wanted to be as good as his parents, who were devout Baptists. His parents were manumitted in 1816, after his enslaver sold the mill. Noah D. Davis (nicknamed Diesel; born April 22, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. Noah Davis (June 3, 1983 – August 29, 2015), was an American painter, installation artist, and founder of the Underground Museum in Los Angeles. When talking about his work, Davis has said, "if I’m making any statement, it’s to just show black people in normal scenarios, where drugs and guns are nothing to do with it," and describes his work as "instances where black aesthetics and modernist aesthetics collide."
