No Speak Alexander
No Speak Alexander (foaled 14 April 2018) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. She showed some promise as a juvenile in 2020 when she won one minor race from five attempts. In the following year she developed into a high-class performer, winning the Athasi Stakes and running third in the Irish 1000 Guineas before recording her biggest success in the Matron Stakes. Background No Speak Alexander is a bay filly with a small white star and white socks on her forelegs bred in Ireland by her owner Noel O'Callaghan's Mountarmstrong Stud. As a yearling in 2019 she was put up for auction at the Goffs Orby Sale but failed to reach her reserve price of €190,000. She was sent into training with Jessica Harrington at Moone, County Kildare. Shalaa
Shalaa (foaled 23 February 2013) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2015 he was beaten on his debut but won his next five races including the July Stakes, Richmond Stakes, Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes. His second season was badly disrupted by injury, although he did win the Bengough Stakes. Background Shalaa is a bay colt with a narrow white blaze bred by the County Cork-based Mogeely Stud. He was sired by the Haydock Sprint Cup winner Invincible Spirit who has produced many other major winners including Kingman, Charm Spirit, Mayson, Fleeting Spirit, Moonlight Cloud and Lawman. Shalaa's dam Ghurra won once in England and twice in California from twenty starts between 2004 and 2007. Ghurra was a descendant of the broodmare Moonstone, making her a distant relative of Nocturnal Spree, Moonax and the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Even Star. Hippodrome Deauville-La Touques is a race track for thoroughbred horse racing located in Deauville in the Calvados département, in the Normandy ''région'' of France. Originally called Hippodrome de la Touques, it was named for the Touques River that separates the city of Deauville from Trouville-sur-Mer. Prix Du Calvados
The Prix du Calvados is a Group 2 flat horse race in France open to two-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Deauville over a distance of 1,400 metres (about 7 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event is named after Calvados, the department in which Deauville is located. It was established in 1970, and it was initially contested over 1,300 metres. It was extended to 1,400 metres and given Group 3 status in 1977. The Prix du Calvados is currently the first Group race of the year in France exclusively for two-year-old fillies. Odds provide a measure of the likelihood of a particular outcome. They are calculated as the ratio of the number of events that produce that outcome to the number that do not.
