''No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1'' is the fifth studio album by Chris Cornell, released posthumously without prior announcement by his estate and Universal Music Enterprises, on December 11, 2020. It consists of ten covers sequenced and recorded by Cornell in 2016, including Harry Nilsson's "Jump into the Fire", John Lennon's "Watching the Wheels", and Prince (musician), Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U". The album was preceded by Cornell's cover of Guns N' Roses' "Patience (Guns N' Roses song), Patience", released as a single on July 20, 2020, in honor of his 56th birthday. The single became Cornell's first solo song to hit No. 1 on ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard''s Mainstream Rock (chart), Mainstream Rock chart. Cornell had also previously released "Stay with Me (Lorraine Ellison song), Stay with Me Baby" for the HBO series ''Vinyl (TV series), Vinyl'', for which he was influenced by Terry Reid's version. Christopher John Cornell (né Boyle; July 20, 1964 – May 18, 2017) was an American singer and musician best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and primary lyricist and songwriter for the rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. He also had a solo career and contributed to numerous movie soundtracks. Cornell was also the founder and frontman of Temple of the Dog, a one-off tribute band dedicated to his late friend Andrew Wood. ''Vinyl'' is an American period drama television series created by Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Rich Cohen and Terence Winter. The series stars Bobby Cannavale as Richie Finestra, a record executive in the 1970s. It premiered on HBO on February 14, 2016, and concluded on April 17, 2016. From a teleplay by Winter and George Mastras, and story by Cohen, Jagger, Scorsese and Winter, the pilot episode was directed by Scorsese. The first season consisted of ten episodes. Scorsese had hoped to direct further episodes of the series. Winter left his position as showrunner at the end of the first season due to creative differences, leaving the position to Scott Z. Burns. HBO announced the renewal of ''Vinyl'' for a second season on February 18, 2016, soon after the pilot episode premiered. Jeffrey Lynne (born 30 December 1947) is an English musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the co-founder of the rock music, rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), which was formed in 1970. "Showdown" is a 1973 song written by Jeff Lynne and recorded by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It was the band's last contemporary recording to be released on the Harvest label. It was released as a single and reached No 12 in the UK Singles Chart, in the week beginning 28 October, and No 9 on the Norwegian chart VG-lista. Release In the US the song was included on the album ''On the Third Day'' (1973), while in the UK the song was omitted from that album but featured a year later on the band's first compilation album, also entitled ''Showdown''. In 2006 the remastered issue of ''On the Third Day'' would feature the song on the album in both countries for the first time. Carl Hall (June 24, 1934 - September 28, 1999) was an American singer, actor, and musical arranger. Background Carl Henry Carldwell was born on June 24, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Carl and Jessie M. (Johnson) Carldwell. He was raised in the West End of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Family was a band formed by Prince, and one of the first signed to Prince's record label, Paisley Park Records. The band reformed as fDeluxe in 2011. History The band's origins started with the disintegration of the Time in 1984. Lead singer Morris Day had left the band to pursue a solo career and guitarist Jesse Johnson became the de facto band leader. Prince suggested restructuring the band with new member Paul Peterson to head the group, but Johnson opposed. Mortimer Shuman (12 November 1938 – 2 November 1991) was an American singer, pianist and songwriter, best known as co-writer of many 1960s rock and roll hits, including "Viva Las Vegas". He also wrote and sang many songs in French, such as "Le Lac Majeur", "Papa-Tango-Charly", "Sha Mi Sha", "Un Été de Porcelaine", and "Brooklyn by the Sea" which became hits in France. Jordan "Jerry" Ragovoy (September 4, 1930 – July 13, 2011) was an American songwriter and record producer. His best-known composition " Time Is on My Side" (written under the pseudonym of Norman Meade) was made famous by the Rolling Stones, although it had been recorded earlier by Kai Winding and Irma Thomas.
