No Masters
No Masters is a British record label, based in the north of England, specialising in folk with a political edge. The label was founded in 1990 by John Tams and Jim Boyes. Originally working as singer, John Tams is now famous as an actor in the TV series ''Sharpe''. He does much of the production work of the label. Keyboard-player Jim Boyes is part of the trio Coope Boyes and Simpson. The best known recordings that have been issued on the label are by Chumbawamba, Coope Boyes and Simpson, Token Women and The Fraser Sisters. The songs address social issues, both historical and contemporary. Most of the artists named above have appeared at the 2006 Beverley Festival. In 2003, the BBC Radio 3 programme ''Late Junction'' broadcast a special edition on tracks from the label. A record label, or record company, is a brand or trademark of music recordings and music videos, or the company that owns it. Folk Music

It is edited by Iain Hazlewood, who founded Spiral Earth in 2004. Spiral Earth's website includes reviews of CD releases and music festivals and features about music. John Tams
John Tams (born 16 February 1949) is an English actor, singer, songwriter, composer and musician born in Holbrook, Derbyshire, the son of a publican. He first worked as a reporter for the '' Ripley & Heanor News'' later working for BBC Radio Derby and BBC Radio Nottingham. Tams had an early part in ''The Rainbow'' (1988), and may be best known for playing a regular supporting role in the ITV drama series '' Sharpe'', as rifleman Daniel Hagman. He also co-wrote the music for each film (18, as of November 2008) alongside Dominic Muldowney. Tams was a member of Derbyshire folk group Muckram Wakes in the 1970s, then worked with Ashley Hutchings as singer and melodeon-player on albums including ''Son of Morris On'', and as a member of the British folk rock group Albion Band. Splitting with Hutchings in the 1980s, he formed Home Service. Coope Boyes And Simpson
Coope Boyes and Simpson was an English vocal folk trio, formed around 1990. Their sound was rich and often had unusual vocal harmonies. The group comprised singers Barry Coope, Jim Boyes (formerly of Swan Arcade) and Lester Simpson, and almost all of their music was sung entirely a cappella, although they occasionally used accordion, guitar and drums very sparingly on recordings. They performed a mixture of both traditional folk songs (though often creatively arranged), hymns and carols, and their own original compositions. Most of their albums have been released on the No Masters label—the No Masters Co-operative is a recording and publishing company run by songwriters, singers and musicians based in the North of England. Chumbawamba
Chumbawamba () were a British rock band formed in 1982 and disbanded in 2012. They are best known for their 1997 single "Tubthumping", which was nominated for Best British Single at the 1998 Brit Awards. Other singles include "Amnesia", " Enough Is Enough" (with MC Fusion), " Timebomb", "Top of the World (Olé, Olé, Olé)", and "Add Me". The band drew on genres such as punk rock, pop, and folk. Their anarcho-communist political leanings led them to have an irreverent attitude toward authority, and to espouse a variety of political and social causes including animal rights and pacifism (early in their career) and later regarding class struggle, Marxism, feminism, gay liberation, pop culture, and anti-fascism. In July 2012, Chumbawamba announced they were splitting up after 30 years. ''Late Junction'' is a music programme broadcast weekly on Friday nights by BBC Radio 3. Billed as "Experimental music for adventurous listeners.", the programme has a wide musical scope. It is not uncommon to hear medieval ballads juxtaposed with 21st-century electronica, or jazz followed by international folk music followed by an ambient track.
