Lloyd Bacon
Lloyd Francis Bacon (December 4, 1889 – November 15, 1955) was an American screen, stage and vaudeville actor and film director. As a director he made films in virtually all genres, including westerns, musicals, comedies, gangster films, and crime dramas. He was one of the directors at Warner Bros. in the 1930s who helped give that studio its reputation for gritty, fast-paced "torn from the headlines" action films. And, in directing Warner Bros.' ''42nd Street (film), 42nd Street'', he joined the movie's song-and-dance-number director, Busby Berkeley, in contributing to "an instant and enduring classic [that] transformed the musical genre." Kathryn Carver
Kathryn Carver Hall (born Catherine Drum; August 24, 1899 – July 17, 1947) was an American actress. Career Carver played in motion pictures during a brief career from 1925 to 1929. She co-starred with Adolphe Menjou in ''Service For Ladies'' (1927) and '' His Private Life'' (1928). Personal life and death Carver was married first to photographer Ira L. Hill. They were divorced on May 2, 1927. Carver married Menjou in 1928 and they divorced in 1934. On January 9, 1936, she wed broker Paul Vincent Hall in Armonk Village, New York. She had a nervous breakdown after the death of her sister in 1932. She retired from making motion pictures in 1934. Carver asked for a temporary allowance of $2,300 per month from Menjou's estimated income of $15,000, when she sued him for divorce. Carver's top salary as an actress was in 1928 when she earned $500 per week. On July 17, 1947, Carver died at Horace Harding Hospital in Elmhurst, Queens. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." William Desmond (actor)
William Desmond (born William Mannion; January 23, 1878 – November 3, 1949) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1915 and 1948. He was nicknamed "The King of the Silent Serials." Born William Mannion in Horseheads, New York, he was raised in New York City. He later changed his surname to a stage name. He started out in vaudeville and the legitimate stage before making his film debut. In 1919, he married his co-star Mary McIvor, with whom he had two daughters. On November 3, 1949, Desmond died at age 71 of a heart attack in Los Angeles, California. He is interred at the Chapel of the Pines Crematory, Los Angeles.
