No. 132 Squadron RAF
No. 132 (City of Bombay) Squadron RAF was a Royal Air Force Squadron formed to be a bomber unit in World War I and reformed as a fighter unit in World War II. History Formation and World War I No. 132 Squadron Royal Flying Corps was formed on 1 March 1918 and became a unit of the Royal Air Force a month later, but it disbanded on 23 December 1918 without becoming operational. Reformation in World War II The squadron reformed in 1941 as a fighter unit equipped with Supermarine Spitfire, Spitfires and then provided air defence from Peterhead, Scotland, and Southern England. It then moved to Normandy after the Normandy landings, D-Day landings. It returned to England in September 1944 before moving to Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, Ceylon, in January 1945. It was then based in Hong Kong, and was disbanded on 15 April 1946. Royal Flying Corps Squadrons
A list of Royal Flying Corps squadrons with date and location of foundation. The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was the aviation arm of the British Army. Squadrons were the main form of flying unit from its foundation on 13 April 1912, until its merging with the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) to form the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918. In June 1914, the RFC consisted of five aircraft squadrons; No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. No. 1 Squadron was in the process of converting from balloons, while No. 7 was still being formed. On the outbreak of the First World War on 4 August 1914, the Military Wing of the RFC comprised 147 officers and 1,097 men with 179 aircraft.
