No. 123 Wing RAF
No. 123 Wing RAF is a former Royal Air Force wing that was operational during the Second World War. Second World War No. 123 (Rocket Projectile) Wing RAF was formed on 12 May 1944 under No. 83 Group RAF, RAF Second Tactical Air Force at RAF Thorney Island, moving to RAF Funtington on 17 June 1944 then across the Channel to France and B.10 Plumelot on 1 July 1944. It moved to B.7 Martragny, B.67 Ursel, B.77 Gilze-Rijen, A.84 Chievres, B.77 Gilze-Rijen, B.91 Kluis, B.103 Plantlunne, B.116 Wunstorf, B.155 Dedelstorf and RAF Wunstorf. By January 1945 the wing was transferred to No. 84 Group RAF. It was disbanded at Wunstorf during October 1947. Royal Air Force Stoney Cross or more simply RAF Stoney Cross is a former Royal Air Force station in the New Forest, Hampshire, England. The airfield is located approximately northwest of Lyndhurst and west of Southampton. Opened in 1942, it served both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces. 418 Search and Rescue Operational Training Squadron is a unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force, formed during World War II. History 418 Squadron RCAF was Canada's highest-scoring squadron in World War II, in terms of both air-to-air and air-to-ground kills, and in terms of both day and night operations. The squadron's most active period was 1944, when assigned to Intruder and Ranger sorties across occupied Europe. The squadron was re-formed in 1946 flying the B-25 Mitchell in the tactical bomber role from the Edmonton Municipal Airport. It moved to RCAF Station Namao in 1955. In 1958, 418 was redesignated as a light transport and search and rescue unit. Aircraft assigned included the de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter and Beechcraft C-45 Expeditor from RCAF Station Namao. Royal Air Force Sawbridgeworth or RAF Sawbridgeworth is a former Royal Air Force station located north of Harlow, Essex and east of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. The airfield was used during the First World War as a night landing ground for fighter aircraft of the Home Defence squadrons protecting London against attacks from German airships. During the inter-war period it was occasionally used for glider and civilian flying until 1937 when it became Mathams Wood Advanced Landing Ground (named after the nearby wooded area). RAF Thruxton
Royal Air Force Thruxton or more simply RAF Thruxton is a former Royal Air Force station located west of Andover, Hampshire and about southwest of London. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces. During the war Thruxton was used primarily as a combat fighter airfield. However, paratroops who participated in the Bruneval raid (Operation Biting) in which German radar technology was captured took off from here in Armstrong Whitworth Whitley bombers on the evening of 27 February 1942.
