Nkululeko Habedi
Nkululeko Habedi (17 October 1977 – 9 March 2015), professionally known as Flabba, was a South African hip-hop musician. He was a member of the South African hip-hop collective Skwatta Kamp. Early life and career He was born in Orlando West in Soweto. He later moved to live in Alexandra with his parents. He was part of the seven piece rap group Skwatta Kamp, a name derived from Squatter Camp, due to South Africa's Shanty Towns (members: Infa, Nish, Shugasmakx, Flabba, Nemza, Slikour, Bozza) which released four albums between the years 2002 and 2009. "Khut and Joyn" was released in 2002 followed by "Mkhukhu Funkshen" in 2003 and "Washumkhukhu" in 2004 after which the group took a break from the music industry to focus on their solo careers and returned in 2009 for their last album "Fair and Skwear". Soweto
Soweto () is a township of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa, bordering the city's mining belt in the south. Its name is an English syllabic abbreviation for ''South Western Townships''. Skwatta Kamp
Skwatta Kamp is a South African seven member hip-hop group, which was founded in 1996 and released their last album in 2009. The group consisted of Infa, Nish, Shugasmakx, Flabba, Nemza, Slikour, and Bozza, some of whom have gone on to release solo projects. The group released four albums and a single mixtape during its existence. Their debut album, ''Khut En Joyn'', was released in 2002 and was followed up by ''Mkhukhu Funkshen'' in 2003, which sold over 25000 copies and was considered as their best album work. It was followed by ''Washumkhukhu'' the following year and finally five years later, ''Fair And Skwear'' was released. The group has won numerous awards for their work including two SAMA awards for best rap album and a channel O best hiphop music video award. This is a list of rappers and hip hop musicians murdered since 1987. Two studies in the mid-2010s concluded that murder was the cause of 51.5% of hip hop musician deaths. The average age of death is between 25–30 years of age. Hip hop has a higher rate of homicide than any other genre of music, ranging from five to 32 times higher. Some reasons cited for the high homicide rate include poor background of many artists, criminal gang activity, drug use, and inadequate pastoral care among artists and record labels. South African Music Awards
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. The show has mostly been held at the Super Bowl in Sun City, with the exception of three years, and broadcast live on national broadcaster, SABC. Orlando is a township (South Africa), township in the urban area of Soweto, South Africa. The township was founded in 1931 and named after Edwin Orlando Leake, Mayor of Johannesburg from 1925 to 1926. It is divided in two main areas: Orlando West and Orlando East.
