Nizar Hamed Mahrous ( ar, نزار محروس; 12 March 1963), known as Abu Hamed, is a Syrian football manager and former player who is the head coach of Erbil. =Managerial career= Career In May 2011, Mahrous was appointed manager of the Syria national team. On 24 August 2011, he quit after FIFA disqualified Syria from 2014 World Cup qualifying for fielding an ineligible player. On 7 July 2021, Mahrous returned as head coach of the Syria national team, ahead of the third round of qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Syrian League 1st Division
Syrian League 1st Division ( ar, الدوري السوري الدرجة الأولى) is the second division in football in Syria. It is operated by the Syrian Football Association (SFA). The league began to play in 1960s. After each season the two top clubs are promoted to the Premier League, and the bottom clubs are relegated to the Syrian League 2nd Division. In the 2021–22 season, Al-Majd and Al-Jazeera SC won the title and they were promoted to Premier League. In 2021–22 season, the league consists of 24 clubs divided into 4 groups based on their geographical distribution. However, the final round consists of 8 teams divided into two groups. Syrian Cup
The Syrian Cup ( ar, سوريا) is Syria's premier knockout Cup tournament in men's football. It was first contested in 1959. Al-Ittihad SC has won the competition on 10 occasions. The final was first played in the 1960-61 season during the UAR era and won by Al-Majd SC. The tournament has been held annually since then except for the 1963, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 seasons. The record for consecutive wins in the competition is four titles, only two teams have achieved such as Al-Karamah and Al-Fotuwa. Al-Ittihad are the current title holders. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) section of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification saw 43 teams competing for 4 or 5 berths in the final tournament in Brazil. As in recent tournaments the AFC had four direct qualifiers for the finals tournament in addition to a further possible place via the intercontinental play-offs against CONMEBOL's fifth-placed team, which was chosen through a random draw, rather than being decided by FIFA beforehand as in previous tournaments (e.g., 2010 against a team from OFC, 2006 against a team from CONCACAF).
