Niranjan Pal
Niranjan Pal (17 August 1889 – 9 November 1959) was an Indian playwright, screenwriter, and director in the Indian film industry in the silent and early talkie days. He was a close associate of Himanshu Rai and Franz Osten, with whom he was a founding member of Bombay Talkies. Biography Born on 17 August 1889 in Calcutta, West Bengal, Niranjan Pal was born in an illustrious Sylheti family, his father was the noted freedom fighter, Bipin Chandra Pal, and Niranjan himself as a teenager was briefly involved in the Indian freedom struggle during an association with Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Madanlal Dhingra in London. By the late 1910s, he started writing and eventually wrote ''The Light of Asia'' and ''Shiraz'', both of which were performed on stage in London. Both were commercially successful and attracted the attention of German filmmaker Franz Osten, who made screen versions in India. Himanshu Rai
Himanshu Rai (1892 – 16 May 1940), one of the pioneers of Indian cinema, is best known as the founder of the studio in 1934, along with Devika Rani. He was associated with a number of movies, including ''Goddess'' (1922), ''The Light of Asia'' (1925), ''Shiraz'' (1928), '' A Throw of Dice'' (1929) and ''Karma'' (1933). He was married to actress Devika Rani Chaudhuri (1929–1940). Biography Born into an aristocratic Bengali family, Rai spent several years in Santiniketan for his schooling. After obtaining a law-degree from Kolkata, he went to London to become a barrister. There, he met a playwright and screenwriter Niranjan Pal. Jeevan Naiya
''Jeevan Naiya'' is a 1936 Hindi film directed by Franz Osten, and produced by Himanshu Rai for his studio Bombay Talkies. It is famous for being the screen debut early superstar Ashok Kumar. The film is about the ostracism of dancing girls. The film was one of several successful Bombay Talkies collaborations between Franz Osten, Himashu Rai, screenwriters J. S. Kashyap and Niranjan Pal, and their leading lady of the time, Devika Rani. It also featured the famous song ''Koi Humdum Na Raha'', sung by Ashok Kumar, with music by Saraswati Devi and by Jamuna Swarup Kashyap (J. S. ''Screen'' was an Indian weekly film magazine published by Indian Express Limited. Established in 1951, it was owned by The Indian Express Group. The magazine was acquired by Star India in 2015 and subsequently ceased publication. The magazine's content focused on India's Hindi film industry, a.k.a. Bollywood, located mainly in Mumbai. It also had an e-magazine version. History ''Screen'' was first published on 26 September 1951 with Manorama Katju as its managing editor. She was succeeded in 1959 by S.S.
