Nir Banim ( he, נִיר בָּנִים, , Sons' Meadow) is a moshav in south-central Israel. Located near Kiryat Gat, it falls under the jurisdiction of Be'er Tuvia Regional Council. In it had a population of . History The moshav was founded in 1954 by sons of residents of the moshavim of Be'er Tuvia, Kfar Vitkin, Kfar Yehezkel, Nahalal and Herut. This was also the source of its name. It was established on land that had belonged to the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Sawafir al-Sharqiyya. Be'er Tuvia Regional Council
Be'er Tuvia Regional Council ( he, מועצה אזורית באר טוביה, ''Mo'atza Azorit Be'er Tovia''), is a regional council in the southern Coastal Plain region in Israel. It borders Yoav and Nahal Sorek regional councils in the east; Hof Ashkelon regional council, the Mediterranean Sea, the city of Ashdod and Gan Yavne local council in the west; Gederot, Hevel Yavne regional councils and Gedera, Bnei Aish local councils in the north; Shafir regional council in the south. The town of Kiryat Malakhi is enclaved in the middle. Be'er Tuvia was incorporated as a regional council in 1950, with a land-area of approximately 140,000 dunams (140 km²). Moshavim
A moshav ( he, מוֹשָׁב, plural ', lit. ''settlement, village'') is a type of Israeli town or settlement, in particular a type of cooperative agricultural community of individual farms settler, pioneered by the Labor Zionism, Labour Zionists between 1904 and 1914, during what is known as the Second Aliyah, second wave of ''aliyah''. A resident or a member of a moshav can be called a "moshavnik" (). The moshavim are similar to kibbutzim with an emphasis on community labour. Nitzan Alon
Major General Nitzan Alon ( he, ניצן אלון; born 1964) is a general in the Israel Defense Forces. In December 2011, he was named GOC Central Command and became Head of Central Command in early 2012. He became a commissioned officer after completing the 12-week-long school IDF Officer Candidate School. Alon went on further and graduated from the École de l'infanterie, a French military academy for further training for commissioned military officers. He then attended the École Militaire Interarmes or EMIA, a military school of the French Army intended to form and train military staff including Senior officers who have risen from the ranks. Between 1984 and 2000, Alon was assigned to various positions in the IDF elite General Staff Special Forces Sayeret Matkal, being appointed its commander in 2001, serving in that position until 2004. Al-Sawafir Al-Sharqiyya
Al-Sawafir al-Sharqiyya was a Palestinian Arab village in the Gaza Subdistrict. It was depopulated during the 1948 War on May 18, 1948, as part of the second stage of Operation Barak. The village was located 32 km northeast of Gaza. History Remains from the late Roman (third–fourth centuries CE), Byzantine (fifth–beginning of seventh centuries CE), and Abbasid eras have been found here. Columns and fragments were noted near the well. Ottoman era Al-Sawafir al-Sharqiyya was like the rest of Palestine, incorporated into the Ottoman Empire in 1517, and in the census of 1596, the village appeared as ''Sawafir as-Sarqi'' under the administration of the ''nahiya'' of Gaza, part of the Liwa of Gaza.
