Niquiá Ecological Station
Niquiá Ecological Station ( pt, Estação Ecológica de Níquia) is an ecological station in the Caracaraí municipality of Roraima state, Brazil. History The station, which has an area of , was created on 3 June 1985. It is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation. The conservation unit is supported by the Amazon Region Protected Areas Program. The unit was created to preserve the genetic banks of the flora. It is named after the stream from which Aniquiá takes its name. It lies in the Caracaraí municipality of Roraima state. Status As of 2009 the Ecological Station was a "strict nature reserve" under IUCN protected area category Ia, with a terrestrial area of . The station is a region of transition forest, with tall trees with thin trunks. Fauna are representative of both the Amazon and the cerrado. Caracaraí
Caracaraí () is a municipality located in the state of Roraima in Brazil. Its population is 22,283 and its area is , making it the largest municipality in Roraima state. Caracaraí is located on the Branco River. Overview Caracaraí was founded by cattle ranchers from Moura. The town was originally known as Cidade Porto and was the capital of the Rio Branco Territory which was later renamed Roraima. The word ''caracaraí'' means "little hawk", a very common bird in the region. Its territory cuts Roraima's in two and keeps boundaries with both the Brazilian state of Amazonas and Venezuela. The Amazon Region Protected Areas Program (ARPA; pt, Programa Áreas Protegidas da Amazônia) is a joint initiative sponsored by government and non-government agencies to expand protection of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. Foundation The Amazon Region Protected Areas Program (ARPA) originated in a 1998 promise by the Brazilian government to triple the area of the Amazon that was legally protected. White-bellied Spider Monkey
The white-bellied spider monkey (''Ateles belzebuth''), also known as the white-fronted or long-haired spider monkey, is an Endangered species, endangered species of spider monkey, a type of New World monkey. It is found in the north-western Amazon Rainforest, Amazon in Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru and Brazil, ranging as far south as the lower Ucayali River and as far east as the Branco River. In the past, the Peruvian spider monkey, Peruvian, brown spider monkey, brown and white-cheeked spider monkeys have been treated as subspecies of ''A. belzebuth''. As presently defined, the white-bellied spider monkey is monotypic.
