Niniane Wang
Niniane Wang is an American software engineer and technology executive. In her early career at Google, Wang co-founded Google Desktop and founded Google Lively. She was previously vice president of engineering of Niantic after her company Evertoon was acquired by Niantic in 2017. Early life and career Wang went to school in New Mexico and Nevada. At fifteen years old, she attended the California Institute of Technology, where she received a bachelor's degree. While studying for a master's degree in computer science at the University of Washington, she worked as an engineering team leader on Microsoft's ''Flight Simulator''. Career Google Wang worked at Google for five years starting in 2003. There she was an engineering manager of products such as Gmail and co-founded Google Desktop, winning a Google Founders' Award for the latter. Google Desktop
Google Desktop was a computer program with desktop search capabilities, created by Google for Linux, Apple Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows systems. It allowed text searches of a user's email messages, computer files, music, photos, chats, Web pages viewed, and the ability to display "Google Gadgets" on the user's desktop in a Sidebar. In September 2011, Google announced it would discontinue a number of its products, including Google Desktop. The reason given was that "In the last few years, there’s been a huge shift from local to cloud-based storage and computing, as well as the integration of search and gadget functionality into most modern operating systems. 20% Project
Side project time is a type of employee benefit constituting a guarantee from employers that their employees may work on their personal projects during some part (usually a percentage) of their time at work. Side project time is limited by two stipulations: what the employee works on is the intellectual property of their employer, and if requested, an explanation must be able to be given as to how the project benefits the company in some way, even tangentially. Technology company Google is credited for popularizing the 20% concept. It led to the development of products such as Gmail and AdSense. Though the program's continuity has been questioned Google states it remains an active program. Yishan Wong () is an American engineer and entrepreneur who was CEO of Reddit from March 2012 until his resignation in November 2014.
