''Ninety Miles Live at Cubadisco'' is a live album by Stefon Harris, David Sanchez, and Christian Scott. The record is the follow-up to the project '' Ninety Miles'' (2011), a video documentary accompanied by a studio-recorded CD which focused on the jazz and popular music traditions of New Orleans and New York and the musical and cultural connections with Cuba and the rest of the Caribbean. The name alludes to that stretch of waters between America, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. The album was recorded on May 18, 2010 at Cubadisco, one of the biggest music festivals in Cuba, at Teatro Amadeo Roldán in Havana, and released on September 24, 2012 via Concord Picante label. Christian Scott (born March 31, 1983), known professionally as Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah), is an American jazz trumpeter, multi instrumentalist, composer, and producer. He has been nominated for six Grammy Awards, is a two-time Edison Award winner, the recipient of the JazzFM Innovator/Innovation of the year Award in 2016, Jazz Journalist Trumpeter of the Year, The Herb Alpert Award in the arts, and The Changing Worlds Peace Maker Award. This is his fifth full-length studio album as a leader. Background Scott explains that his concept of stretch music (or "forecasting cells" in his liners) is an approach to create a more absorbent and sensitive kind of jazz. Stefon DeLeon Harris (born March 23, 1973) is an American jazz vibraphonist. Biography A native of Albany, New York, Harris intended to work for the New York Philharmonic until he heard the music of Charlie Parker. During the 1990s he recorded with Charlie Hunter and Steve Turre as a session musician. He signed with Blue Note, which released his debut album, '' A Cloud of Red Dust'' (1998). His second album, ''Black Action Figure'', was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2001 he worked with pianist Jacky Terrasson at the Village Vanguard in New York City and recorded the album ''Kindred'' with him during the same year. David Sánchez (born 9 September 1968 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) is a Grammy-winning jazz tenor saxophonist from Puerto Rico. Early life Sanchez took up the conga when he was eight and started playing tenor saxophone at age 12. His earliest influences were Afro-Caribbean and danza but also European and Latin classical.
