Nine Sisters
The Nine Sisters or the Morros are a chain of twenty-three, although typically only nine are included, volcanic mountains and hills in western San Luis Obispo County, Southern California. They run between Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. Geography The peaks were created more than 20 million years ago during the Miocene Epoch of the Neogene Period, as volcanic plugs of magma which welled up and solidified inside softer rock which has since eroded away. Every plug, with the exception of just two, formed in a nearly straight line. Two of the plugs are in Morro Bay State Park. The highest is Bishop Peak at . Cerro Romauldo
Cerro Romualdo is a mountain in San Luis Obispo County, California. The mountain is the fifth in a series of volcanic plugs called the Nine Sisters. Until 1964 the mountain was officially known as Romualdo Peak. The mountain is named for a Chumash man who received the Rancho Huerta de Romualdo Mexican land grant from Pío Pico, the last Mexican Governor of Alta California. ''Huerta de Romualdo'' means ''Romualdo's kitchen garden or orchard'' in Spanish. He sold the land to Captain John Wilson in 1846. In the 1890s, rock from Cerro Romualdo was used in the construction of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Montaña De Oro State Park
Montaña de Oro ("Mountain of Gold" in Spanish language, Spanish) is a state park in Central Coast (California), Central Coastal California, six miles southwest of Morro Bay and two miles south of Los Osos. It consists of 8,000 acres (32 km²) of cliffs, seven miles of shoreline, sandy beaches, dunes, coastal plains, streams, canyons, and hills, including the 1,347-foot (411 m) Valencia Peak. California Oak Woodland
California oak woodland is a plant community found throughout the California chaparral and woodlands ecoregion of California in the United States and northwestern Baja California in Mexico. Oak woodland is widespread at lower elevations in coastal California; in interior valleys of the Coast Ranges, Transverse Ranges and Peninsular Ranges; and in a ring around the California Central Valley grasslands. Coastal sage scrub, also known as coastal scrub, CSS, or soft chaparral, is a low scrubland plant community of the California coastal sage and chaparral subecoregion, found in coastal California and northwestern coastal Baja California. It is within the California chaparral and woodlands ecoregion, of the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome. Cerro San Luis Obispo
Cerro San Luis Obispo ( Obispeño: ''łpɨłhɨtšnuka'' ) is a mountain in San Luis Obispo, California. It is part of the chain of peaks called the Nine Sisters. It is a common spot for hiking, jogging and mountain biking, and has steep terrain. Below the west side of the visible peak, there is a large plateau with a large wooden stage on the east end. The large white "M" present on the east face derives from Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School. History Some time around 1900, an American Civil War veteran, G. W. Chandler, lived on the mountain and planted lemons and oranges. The trees still overlook the city and are watered by two springs.
