Nils Nilsen Ronning
Nils Nilsen Ronning (also N. N. Rønning; May 19, 1870 – June 25, 1962) was an American author, journalist and editor. Background Nils Nilsen Rønning was born at Bø in Telemark, Norway. After he emigrated to America in 1887, he attended Faribault public schools. He had studied for the Lutheran ministry and attended the Haugean Lutheran church Red Wing Seminary from 1887 to 1892. He attended the University of Minnesota from 1892 to 1896, received both a bachelor's and master's degree. Career Ronning was a journalist and publisher who was associated with several newspapers and magazines published in Minneapolis. For several years he worked part-time for the Augsburg Publishing House of the United Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. Bø, Telemark
Bø is a village and municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Midt-Telemark, but was historically regarded as part of Grenland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Bø i Telemark ("Bø in Telemark"). Bø has been a settlement since ancient times, a parish since the middle ages and became a municipality (''formannskapsdistrikt'') in 1838. The area of Lunde was separated from Bø in 1867 to become a separate municipality. Bø has a population of 5,977 (2015). Norwegian Lutheran Church In America
The Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) was a Lutheran denomination that existed from 1917, when it was founded as the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America (NLCA), until 1960, when it joined two other church bodies to form the second American Lutheran Church. In 1959, just before its merger into the ALC, the ELC had 2,242 pastors, 2,482 congregations, and 1,125,867 members. Background The Norwegian Lutheran Church of America was formed by the merger of the Hauge Synod (est. 1876), the Norwegian Synod (est. 1853), and the United Norwegian Lutheran Church of America (est. 1890). The NLCA changed its name to the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) in 1946 as part of its Americanization process.
