Muhammad Shahrin Islam Chowdhury ( bn, মোহাম্মদ শাহরিন ইসলাম চৌধুরী), also known by his daak naam Tuhin ( bn, তুহিন), is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and former Member of Parliament for Nilphamari-1. He is the nephew of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Khaleda Zia. Early life and family Shahrin Islam Tuhin was born in Rajshahi, to a Bengali Muslim family. His ancestral home is in the village of Gomnati, Domar Upazila, Domar, Nilphamari District. His father, M. Shafiqul Ghani Swapan
Shawfikul Ghaani Swapan was a Bangladeshi politician and the former chairman of Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP. During his political career, he served as a Member of Parliament twice, and held cabinet positions in both the Zia and Ershad Governments. Begum Mansur Mohiuddin
Begum Monsura Mohiuddin was a Jatiya Party (Ershad) politician and the former Member of Parliament of Nilphamari-1. She was the eldest daughter of former Senior Minister Mashiur Rahman (Jadu Mia) and sister of former cabinet minister Shawfikul Ghaani Shapan. The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament, or MP. The 11th National Parliamentary Election was held on 30 December 2018. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. 2001 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 1 October 2001. The 300 single-seat constituencies of the Jatiya Sangsad were contested by 1,935 candidates representing 54 parties and including 484 independents. The elections were the second to be held under the caretaker government concept, introduced in 1996. The result was a win for the Four Party Alliance of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, Jatiya Party (Manju) and Islami Oikya Jote. 2014 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 5 January 2014, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the term of the Jatiya Sangshad on 24 January 2014. The elections were not free and fair. They were preceded by a government crackdown on the opposition, with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Opposition leader Khaleda Zia was put under house arrest. There were widespread arrests of other opposition members, violence and strikes by the opposition, attacks on religious minorities, and extrajudicial killings by the government, with around 21 people killed on election day. Almost all major opposition parties boycotted the elections, resulting in 153 of the total 300 seats being uncontested and the incumbent Awami League-led Grand Alliance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina winning a landslide majority.
