Nikos Veliotis
Nikos Veliotis (born 26 February 1970 in Athens, Greece) is a Greek musician, composer and cellist. Biography Nikos Veliotis initially studied classical piano until the age of 16. He became involved in the Athens underground electronic music scene and founded In Trance 95 together with Alex Machairas in 1988. He took up the cello at the age of 21. By the end of the 90s he was totally devoted to the experimental field in both sound and image, performing solo or in regular groups. During the early 2000s he started a collaboration with fellow Greek musician Giannis Aggelakas with whom they released two albums to date. In 2008 he founded Mohammad (also going by the MMMD moniker) together with ILIOS Coti K. On 21 March 2009 he turned his cello into powder during a live performance with the title ‘Cello Powder he Complete Works for Cello at the Install Festival in Glasgow, U.K. He is the owner of a curved bow (BACH.Bogen n° 19). In Trance 95 (also abbreviated to IT95) is a Greek electronic music band from Athens. History In Trance 95 are a duo from Athens, Greece. They were formed by Alex Machairas and Nik Veliotis in May 1988; Veliotis departed in 1992. Machairas said of his influences, "Albums such as ''Radio-Activity'' by Kraftwerk, the first four lbumsof Orchestral Manoeuvres n the Dark John Foxx's '' Metamatic'', as well as less known material like for example the cassette '' Space Museum'' by Solid Space... influenced me in particular to make me want to create music. Giannis Aggelakas
Giannis Aggelakas (Greek: Γιάννης Αγγελάκας) is a Greek singer, songwriter, and poet. Best known as the former lead singer of the Greek rock band Trypes, he maintains a productive solo career since 2000 having experimented with Greek folk music and collaborated with artists like Thanassis Papakonstantinou and Psarantonis. From 2004 onwards, he maintains his own record label, ''All together Now'' releasing his personal albums from there. Curved Bow
The curved bow for string instruments enables string players to control the tension of the bow hair in order to play one, two, three and four strings simultaneously and to change easily among these possibilities. The high arch of the bow allows full, sustained chords to be played and there is a lever mechanism that affects the tension and release of the bow hair. The stick of the curved bow is bent upwards (convex) and forms a circle segment. Since the four strings of a string instrument are arranged on a curved bridge, the bow hairs must be loosened so that they can reach all three or four strings (Fig. 1). Angharad Davies
Angharad Davies is a Welsh violinist and composer, known for her work in the field of free improvisation, her use of prepared violin (using techniques similar to the prepared piano), her extensive discography and collaborative work with other musicians. Early life and education Davies was born in Aberystwyth, Wales, and grew up in a musical household, playing in local brass bands alongside her father and brother. Her father was an amateur trumpet player and her brother is Rhodri Davies, now known as an improvising harpist. Daryl Runswick
Daryl Runswick (born 12 October 1946) is a classically trained English composer, arranger, jazz musician, producer and educationalist. Career Runswick was born in Leicester, and educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He started playing bass with leading UK jazz musicians in the mid-1960s, including Dick Morrissey and John Dankworth, with whom he would tour and compose for extensively for some 12 years. Dai Fujikura ( ja, 藤倉 大 ''Fujikura Dai''; born 27 April 1977) is a Japanese-born composer of contemporary classical music. Biography Dai Fujikura was born in 1977 in Osaka, Japan.
