Nikolje Monastery
Nikolje Rudničko ( sr-Cyrl, Никоље) is the Serbian Orthodox monastery located in Donja Šatornja, 12 km away from Topola, Serbia. History The monastery was founded by Nikola Dorjenović, nobleman of despot Stefan Lazarević Stefan Lazarević ( sr-Cyrl, Стефан Лазаревић, 1377 – 19 July 1427), also known as Stefan the Tall ( sr, Стефан Високи / ''Stefan Visoki''), was the ruler of Serbia as prince (1389–1402) and despot (1402–1427), ..., in 1425. Based on the records etched into the stone blocks on the north facade of the church (now plastered), it is concluded that in the second half of the fifteenth and early sixteenth century monastery had very developed monastic life. In the seventeenth century, when the monastery was reestablished again, there was a major renovation, therefore it is believed that before the renovation monastery was damaged and abandoned for a short period of time. Donja Šatornja
Donja Šatornja (''Доња Шаторња'') is a village located in Serbia. It has approximately 890 inhabitants and is located at 98 km from the capital of Serbia, Belgrade, in the municipality of Topola. One of the most beautiful medieval monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church Nikolje is also located in Donja Šatornja. Topola
Topola ( sr-cyrl, Топола, ) is a town and municipality located in the Šumadija District of central Serbia. It was the place where Karađorđe, a Serbian revolutionary, was chosen as the leader of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire in 1804. The local St. George Church is the burial place of the Ducal and Royal Family of Serbia and Yugoslavia (the Karađorđevićes). The name ''Topola'' means poplar. Topola is famous for its yearly Oplenac vintage festival, attended by several thousand visitors each year. Stefan Lazarević
Stefan Lazarević ( sr-Cyrl, Стефан Лазаревић, 1377 – 19 July 1427), also known as Stefan the Tall ( sr, Стефан Високи / ''Stefan Visoki''), was the ruler of Serbia as prince (1389–1402) and despot (1402–1427), diplomat, legislator, ktetor, patron of the arts, poet and one of the founding members of the Order of the Dragon. The son of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović, he was regarded as one of the finest knights and military leaders at that time. After the death of his father at Kosovo (1389), he became ruler of Moravian Serbia and ruled with his mother Milica (a Nemanjić), until he reached adulthood in 1393. Stefan led troops in several battles as an Ottoman vassal, until asserting independence after receiving the title of ''despot'' from the Byzantines in 1402.
