Nikolai Ivanovich Smirnov
Nikolay Ivanovich Smirnov (Russian Никола́й Ива́нович Смирно́в) (22 September 1917 – 8 July 1992) was a Soviet Navy Fleet Admiral (Soviet rank) , Fleet Admiral and a Hero of the Soviet Union (1984). Smirnov was born in a peasant family and graduated from an agricultural institute. He joined the Navy in 1937 and completed the St. Petersburg Naval Institute, M.V. Frunze Higher Naval School in Leningrad in 1939. He joined the Pacific Fleet (Russia), Pacific Fleet and qualified as a navigator on submarines. In 1943–44 he commanded a Pacific Fleet submarine. In June 1944 he was transferred to the Black Sea Fleet where he commanded a submarine. After the war Smirnov continued in the Black Sea Fleet serving as a staff officer and commander of a submarine squadron in 1956–57. Smirnov graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, General Staff Academy in 1959. In 1960 he became chief of staff of the Black Sea Fleet. ...

''Aerograd'' (russian: Аэроград, also referred to as ''Air City'' or ''Frontier'') is a 1935 Soviet drama film by Ukrainian director Oleksandr Dovzhenko, a coproduction between Mosfilm and VUFKU. Nikolai Vasilyevich Smirnov (russian: Николай Васильевич Смирнов) (17 October 1900 – 2 June 1966) was a Soviet Russian mathematician noted for his work in various fields including probability theory and statistics. Smirnov's principal works in mathematical statistics and probability theory were devoted to the investigation of limit distributions by means of the asymptotic behaviour of multiple integrals as the multiplicity is increased with limit. He was one of the creators of the nonparametric statistics, nonparametric methods in mathematical statistics and of the theory of limit distributions of order statistics.
