Nikolaos Deligiannis (water Polo)
Nikolaos "Nikos" Deligiannis ( gr, Νικόλαος Δεληγιάννης, born 3 September 1976 in Athens) is a Greek former water polo player who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics (10th place), the 2004 Summer Olympics (4th place), the 2008 Summer Olympics (7th place) and the 2012 Summer Olympics (9th place) with the Greece men's national water polo team. He was also part of the Greece national squad who won the Bronze Medal in the 2005 World Championship in Montreal and the Bronze Medal in the 2004 World League in Long Beach. At club level, Deligiannis had a long and successful career playing for Greek powerhouse Olympiacos for 14 years (2001–2015), with whom he won 1 LEN Champions League, 1 LEN Super Cup, 12 Greek Championships and 12 Greek Cups. He was also captain of Olympiacos for several years. Water polo at the 2004 Summer Olympics took place at the Olympic Aquatic Centre where women competed for only the second time in the event at the Summer Olympics. LEN Euroleague
The LEN Champions League is the top-tier European professional water polo club competition with teams from up to 18 countries. It is organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation. The competition started in 1963 as European Cup. A change of name and format occurred in 1996, with the competition being renamed Champions League and the final four system being established as the format of choice, for the first time during the 1996–97 LEN Champions League. From 2003 to 2011 the competition was named LEN Euroleague (with the change of name being simply a re-branding) and from 2011 and on LEN Champions League, its current name. LEN Champions League is the most popular water polo league in the European continent. It has been won by 24 clubs, 10 of which have won the title more than once. The Greek Water Polo cup is the second most important competition of Greece, Greek men's waterpolo and is organised by Hellenic Swimming Federation, KOE (Hellenic Swimming Federation). It was first held in 1953. Initially started as a competition in memory of Pantelis Psychas, Greek athlete of the swimming. The competition was interrupted from 1959 to 1983. Moreover, it wasn't held in 1993-94 season. From 1998-99 season the Final Four system was instituted. LEN Super Cup
The LEN Super Cup is an annual water polo match organized by LEN and contested by the reigning champions of the two European club competitions, the LEN Champions League and the LEN Euro Cup. From 1976 to 2002, the LEN Super Cup was contested between the winners of the European Champions Cup/LEN Champions League and the winners of the LEN Cup Winners' Cup.
