Nikiski High School is a public high school in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District located in Nikiski, Alaska. The school population is approximately 400 students in grades 6-12 and it is classified as a 3A school by the Alaska School Activities Association. Nikiski High School offers football, volleyball, cross-country, wrestling, basketball, soccer, baseball, cross-country skiing, track and field, dance troupe, and DDF (drama, debate, and forensics). The football team were state champions in 2011. Nikiski is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska, United States. The population was 4,456 at the 2020 census, down from 4,493 in 2010. Geography Nikiski is located at (60.707891, -151.262646) on the west side of the Kenai Peninsula. It lies along the shore of Cook Inlet between Salamatof to the south and the Swanson River to the northeast. It is bordered across the Swanson River by the Point Possession CDP. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Nikiski CDP has a total area of , of which are land and , or 8.57%, are water. The CDP is in a low-lying region covered by several lakes, including Stormy Lake, Suneva Lake, Daniels Lake, Timberlost Lake, Island Lake, Foreland Lake, Bernice Lake, and Cabin Lake. The main road access is via the Kenai Spur Highway, which leads south to the city of Kenai and north to Captain Cook State Recreation Area. The Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA) is the regulating body for high school interscholastic activities in Alaska and is Alaska's member to the National Federation of State High School Associations. History The Alaska High School Activities Association was founded in 1957 by the territorial board of education, when the need arose for a regulating body in local and regional basketball tournaments.
