Nijverdal
Nijverdal () is a town of approximately 25,000 inhabitants in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is the commercial centre of the municipality Hellendoorn. Nijverdal (which means ''Industrious Valley'') was founded in 1836 on the territory of the hamlet Noetsele. It was here that the industrial revolution in the Netherlands took root. Thomas Ainsworth (1795–1841) was one of its ''founding fathers''. Textile production was the focus of industrial activity in Nijverdal, as it was for the rest of the Twente region. Some of the traditional factory buildings in the Art Deco or Jugendstil style still remain. A river called the '' Regge'' runs through the town, and is the historical border between the two regions Twente and Salland, and the border of two Dutch dialects, which are Twents and Sallaands, respectively. Nijverdal Railway Station
Nijverdal is a railway station located in Nijverdal, the Netherlands. The station opened on 1 January 1881 and is located on the Zwolle–Almelo railway. Train services are operated by Keolis Nederland. Previously, this station was called Hellendoorn-Nijverdal(1881-1925) and Nijverdal Noord (1925-1935), to differentiate it from the then main Nijverdal station, located on the former Neede-Hellendoorn railway (1910-1935). In recent years, works have been carried out around Nijverdal station in order to improve road and rail routes between Almelo and Zwolle. Between December 2009 and March 2013, direct services between Zwolle and Almelo were interrupted. Coming from Zwolle, trains terminated at a temporary station Nijverdal West railway station, Nijverdal West. Nijverdal West Railway Station
Nijverdal West was a temporary railway station located in Nijverdal, the Netherlands. The station was located on the Zwolle–Almelo railway and opened on 14 December 2009. It closed on 3 March 2013. The services were operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. To improve road and rail routes between Almelo and Zwolle there were many works along the line. As a result of this, temporary station Nijverdal West was opened in December 2009. During its operational period, there was no direct service between Zwolle and Almelo. Hellendoorn
Hellendoorn (; Tweants: ''Heldern'' or ''Healndoorn'') is a municipality and town in the middle of the Dutch province of Overijssel. As of 2019, the municipality had a population of 35,808. There is an amusement park near the town of Hellendoorn called . At the outskirts of the town there is an ice cream factory from Unilever, where Ben & Jerry's is produced for the European market. Thomas Ainsworth
Thomas Ainsworth (1795–1841) was an Englishman and the founding father of Nijverdal, a small town in the Netherlands, during the 19th century. He laid the basis for the Royal Steam Weaving Mill (KSW) in Nijverdal in 1836 that is still operating today under the name . Biography Son of Betty (née Hargreave) and prominent Lancashire cotton industrialist, Thomas Ainsworth (1758–1831) and grandson of pioneer of chemical bleaching and founder of Halliwell bleach works, Peter Ainsworth (1713–1780). Thomas Ainsworth (1795–1841) was born in Bolton le Moors, Lancashire a textile-producing region in England. He married Jane Bower of West Retford, Nottinghamshire in 1820, and together they had 5 children. AV Atletics
ASV Atletics is a Dutch athletics club based in Nijverdal in the province of Overijssel. It was established in 1986. It has ±260 members. AV Atletics is affiliated to the Netherlands Athletics Federation. History Since 1984, there is an organised group of runners in the community of Hellendoorn. Zwem en Polo Club Het Ravijn is a Dutch water sports from Nijverdal club founded in 1961. It is best known for its women's water polo team, which has won four national championships since 2000. Salland-Twente Tunnel
The Salland-Twente tunnel is a combined road and railway tunnel in the town of Nijverdal in the The Netherlands, Dutch province of Overijssel. The tunnel was part of the ''Combiplan'' to redirect traffic on the Provincial road N35 (Netherlands), N35 away from the main road in the center of the town. The railway part of the tunnel, part of the Zwolle-Almelo railway, was first used in April 2013, the road part was opened in August 2015. Twente
Twente ( nl, Twente , Tweants dialect: ''Tweante'') is a region in the eastern Netherlands. It encompasses the most urbanised and easternmost part of the province of Overijssel. Overijssel (, ; nds, Oaveriessel ; german: Oberyssel) is a Provinces of the Netherlands, province of the Netherlands located in the eastern part of the country.
