Nijefurd () is a former municipality in the northern Netherlands, in the province of Friesland. History It was formed in 1984 from the old municipalities of Hindeloopen, Stavoren, and Workum, and part of Hemelumer Oldeferd. Koudum
Koudum is a village in the northern Netherlands. It is located in Súdwest-Fryslân, Friesland. Nearby villages include Molkwerum to the west, Workum to the north and Hemelum to the south. The population of Koudum was 2,700 in 2019. The nearest train station is the Koudum-Molkwerum railway station. There is a restored windmill in the village, ''De Vlijt''. History The village was first mentioned in 855 as Coluuidum, and means " charcoal woods". Koudum developed on the higher clay ground in the Gaasterland region. It used to be a linear settlement with a little centre around the church. Koudum was the capital of the former municipality of until 1984. Warns, Friesland
Warns is a village in the northern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, Friesland. It had a population of around 720 in January 2017. Warns is best known for the Battle of Warns. In 1345, count William IV of Holland tried to invade Friesland. A battle took place at the Roode Klif (Red Cliff), a nine metre high clay ridge, on the former Zuiderzee (nowadays: IJsselmeer) where the invasion was stopped. Almost the entire army of Holland including count William were killed during the battle. History The village was first mentioned in 1245 as Warlesle, and probably means "settlement of the people of Wardilo (person)". Nijhuizum
Nijhuizum ( fry, Nijhuzum) is a village in Súdwest-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands with a population of around 55 in January 2017. History The village was first mentioned in 1449 as Nyahusen, and means new houses. Nijhuizum is surrounded by lakes and can only be accessed by car from a dead-end road from Workum. There is a ferry for pedestrians and cyclists to Gaastmeer. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1721, and is a replacement of a 13th century predecessor. Nijhuizum was home to 70 people in 1840. Before 2011, the village was part of the Nijefurd municipality and before 1984 it belonged to Wymbritseradiel. Molkwerum
Molkwerum ( fry, Molkwar) is a village in Súdwest-Fryslân municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 390 in January 2017. Molkwerum used to be called Friese Doolhof (Frisian Maze), because it is built on numerous little islands dissected by canals in a random fashion. The village used to contain 27 bridges. History The village was first mentioned in 1398 as Molkenhuzen. The etymology is unclear. Molkwerum used to be located to the north of the former Zuiderzee and to the south of the former Staverse Meer which was '' poldered'' in the 17th century. The village was populated by sea traders who sailed to the Baltic Sea, and had its own office in Amsterdam. The current Dutch Reformed church was built in 1850 and has a tower from 1799. The maritime past lasted until the 16th/17th century, and Molkwerum turned into a fishing village. Molkwerum was home to 301 people in 1840. It Heidenskip
It Heidenskip ( nl, Heidenschap) is a village in Súdwest-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 335 in January 2017. History The village was first mentioned in 1511 as Heijdenscip, and means "wild growth on land". It Heidenskip is a long linear settlement. It is a relative new settlement. In 1851, it contained two buildings and a ferry. The name used for the area between the city of Workum and the lake. During the 19th century, a settlement developed in Brandeburen. The oldest church dated from 1389, but was demolished and a farm was built in its place. In the 19th century, a small Mennonite church was built, which resulted in the construction of a Dutch Reformed church. In 1979, it was elevated to the status of village. Wûnseradiel () is a former municipality in the Friesland province of the northern Netherlands, at the eastern end of the ''Afsluitdijk''. The official (legal) name of the municipality is in the West Frisian language, though it is known as Wonseradeel () in Dutch. Stavoren
Stavoren (; fry, Starum; previously Staveren) is a city in the province of Friesland, Netherlands, on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 5 km (3.1 mi) south of Hindeloopen, in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân. Stavoren had a population of 950 in January 2017. It is one of the stops on the Elfstedentocht (English: "eleven cities tour"), an ice skating contest that occurs when the winter temperatures provide safe conditions. A ferry for pedestrians and cyclists operates between Stavoren and Enkhuizen, with increased trips during summer months. Wymbritseradiel
Wymbritseradeel (; official fry, Wymbritseradiel ()) was a rural municipality ( nl, gemeenten) in the Dutch province of Friesland from 1984 until 2011. An earlier type of municipality ( nl, grietenij) of the same name existed from 1500 until 1984. History Wymbritseradeel was formed from the division of the medieval district of Waghenbrugghe. The ''grietenij'' of Wymbritseradeel was created in 1500 as Frisian cities became independent and several grietenij were split on the south side of the area. The boundaries of Wymbritseradeel remained unchanged until 1984. From 1625 until the introduction of the municipal law in 1851, the grietman of Wymbritseradeel lived in the stins of Epemastate in IJsbrechtum ( fry, Ysbrechtum).
