Nightmare Creatures
''Nightmare Creatures'' is a 1997 survival horror video game developed by Kalisto Entertainment for PlayStation, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo 64. A sequel, ''Nightmare Creatures II'', was released three years later. A mobile phone version of ''Nightmare Creatures'' was developed and published by Gameloft in 2003. A second sequel, ''Nightmare Creatures III: Angel of Darkness'', was cancelled in 2004. Plot The story behind ''Nightmare Creatures'' draws upon gothic horror elements of the 19th century and begins in 1666, when a devil-worshiping cult called the Brotherhood of Hecate were conducting sinister experiments in London so as to take over the city, and then the world. Kalisto Entertainment
Kalisto Entertainment was a French video game development company founded by Nicolas Gaume at age 19. They are mostly known for developing ''Fury of the Furries'' and the ''Nightmare Creatures'' series. The company began as Atreid Concept in 1990 and later created the distribution label Kalisto in 1992, which became Kalisto Entertainment's namesake. In late 1993, Atreid Concept became part of Mindscape (software publisher), Mindscape Inc. as Mindscape Bordeaux. Nicolas Gaume bought Mindscape Bordeaux back in 1996, and renamed the company Kalisto Entertainment. In 2000, it expanded operations when the company acquired Texas-based developer Daylight Productions, and renamed itself to Kalisto Entertainment USA. Gothic Horror
Gothic fiction, sometimes called Gothic horror in the 20th century, is a loose literary aesthetic of fear and haunting. The name is a reference to Gothic architecture of the European Middle Ages, which was characteristic of the settings of early Gothic novels. The first work to call itself Gothic was Horace Walpole's 1764 novel ''The Castle of Otranto'', later subtitled "A Gothic Story". Mindscape was a video game developer and publisher. The company was founded by Roger Buoy in October 1983 in Northbrook, Illinois, originally as part of SFN Companies until a management buyout was completed in 1987. Mindscape went public in 1988 and was subsequently acquired in 1990 by The Software Toolworks, eyeing Mindscape's Nintendo license. When Toolworks was acquired by Pearson plc in 1994, Mindscape became the primary identity for the development group. Mindscape was then sold to The Learning Company in 1998 and bought out by Jean-Pierre Nordman in 2001, becoming headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. Following the poor performance of its products, Mindscape exited the video game industry in August 2011. ''Next Generation'' was a video game magazine that was published by Imagine Media (now Future US). It was affiliated to and shared editorial with the UK's ''Edge'' magazine. ''Next Generation'' ran from January 1995 until January 2002. It was published by Jonathan Simpson-Bint and edited by Neil West. Other editors included Chris Charla, Tom Russo, and Blake Fischer. The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through central London from Sunday 2 September to Thursday 6 September 1666, gutting the medieval City of London inside the old Roman city wall, while also extending past the wall to the west.
