''Night Court'' is a 1932 American pre-Code crime film directed by W. S. Van Dyke and written by Bayard Veiller and Lenore Coffee. The film stars Phillips Holmes, Walter Huston, Anita Page, Lewis Stone and Mary Carlisle. The film was released June 4, 1932, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Bayard Veiller
Bayard Veiller (January 2, 1869 – January 16, 1943) was an American playwright, screenwriter, producer and film director. He wrote for 32 films between 1915 and 1941. Biography He was born on January 2, 1869, in Brooklyn, New York to Philip Bayard Veiller. He was married to English actress Margaret Wycherly from 1901 to 1922; their son, Anthony Veiller, was also a screenwriter. Veiller first broke into Broadway theatre with ''The Primrose Path'', a play that he wrote and produced. It was a failure and left him broke, although it later served as the basis for the 1920 film, '' Burnt Wings''. His first success as a playwright was '' Within the Law'', a hit on Broadway in 1912-1913. It was later adapted as a movie five times. Veiller continued to write plays as he began screenwriting. John Miljan
John Miljan (November 9, 1892 – January 24, 1960) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1924 and 1958. Biography Born in 1892, Miljan was the tall, smooth-talking villain in Hollywood films for almost four decades, beginning in 1923. Miljan made his first sound film in 1927 in the promotional trailer for ''The Jazz Singer'', inviting audiences to see the upcoming landmark film. In later years he played imposing, authoritative parts such as high-ranking executives and military officers. He is best remembered as General Custer in Cecil B. DeMille's film ''The Plainsman''. DeMille also cast him in two notable supporting roles in two of his biblical epics: the Tribe of Dan, Danite elder Lesh Lakish in ''Samson and Delilah (1949 film), Samson and Delilah'' (1949), and the blind Israelite grandfather in The Exodus in ''The Ten Commandments (1956 film), The Ten Commandments'' (1956).
