Nigeria At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Nigeria competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, from August 5 to 21, 2016. Since the nation made its debut in 1952, Nigerian athletes had appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal because of the African boycott. Nigeria Olympic Committee fielded a squad of 77 athletes, 51 men and 26 women, to compete in ten sports at the Games. It was the nation's largest delegation sent to the Olympics since 2000, increasing by a third of its full roster size at London 2012. Among the sports represented by the nation's athletes, Nigeria marked its Olympic debut in rowing, as well as its return to swimming and men's football after an eight-year hiatus. Apart from the men's football squad, Nigeria also returned to the Olympic scene in men's basketball for the second consecutive time. Nigeria Olympic Committee
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is the National Olympic Committee for Nigeria, responsible for co-ordinating and supporting Nigerian competitors in the Olympic Games. It is also the body responsible for Nigeria's representation at the Commonwealth Games. Leadership The President of the NOC as of 2011 was Sani Ndanusa who had been Minister of Sports from 17 December 2008 to 17 March 2010. Ndanusa first said he aspired to become NOC President when he was Minister of Sports, but in November 2009 the NOC screening committee disqualified him on the basis that documents he had submitted were allegedly "forged, altered and not dated". To be eligible for NOC President a candidate has to have served for four years in an executive position in an international sports federation. William Troost-Ekong
William Paul Troost-Ekong (born 1 September 1993) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Serie A club Salernitana, on loan from EFL Championship side Watford, and captains the Nigeria national team. Saturday Keigo Erimuya (born 10 January 1998) is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a central defender. Club career Between January 2016 and June 2016, Erimuya spent time on loan at Kayseri Erciyesspor in Turkey from Benin-City based BJ Foundation.
