Nigel Vinson, Baron Vinson
Nigel Vinson, Baron Vinson LVO (born 27 January 1931), is a British entrepreneur, inventor, philanthropist and Conservative former member of the House of Lords. Early life and business career Vinson was born 27 January 1931, second son of Ronald Vinson (died 1976), a gentleman farmer of Huguenot descent, and his second wife Bettina Myra Olivia (died 1966), daughter of general practitioner Gerald Southwell-Sander. She had studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, but gave up her studies to marry. She was a "voracious reader", who supplemented her sons' education by reading to them from the classics. Ronald Vinson purchased the fourteenth-century Nettlestead Place at Wateringbury near Maidstone, Kent, commissioning the architect Percy Morley Horder to rescue the house from "chronic disrepair", it having spent the previous two centuries as an oast house. ''The Right Honourable'' ( abbreviation: ''Rt Hon.'' or variations) is an honorific style traditionally applied to certain persons and collective bodies in the United Kingdom, the former British Empire and the Commonwealth of Nations. The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is a right-wing pressure group and think tank registered as a UK charity Associated with the New Right, the IEA describes itself as an "educational research institute", and says that it seeks to "further the dissemination of free-market thinking", and that it does so by "analysing and expounding the role of markets in solving economic and social problems." The IEA subscribes to a neoliberal worldview and advocates positions based on this ideology. Aldershot is a constituency in Hampshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2017 by Leo Docherty, a Conservative. Political history Aldershot has elected a Conservative as its MP since its creation in 1918. From 1974, to 2010 (inclusive) Liberal Democrats (or predecessor, Liberals) polled second. A Nissen hut is a prefabricated steel structure for military use, especially as barracks, made from a half-cylindrical skin of corrugated iron. Designed during the First World War by the American-born, Canadian-British engineer and inventor Major Peter Norman Nissen, it was used also extensively during the Second World War, being adapted as the similar Quonset hut in the United States. Queen's Royal Regiment
The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) was a line infantry regiment of the English and later the British Army from 1661 to 1959. It was the senior English line infantry regiment of the British Army, behind only the Royal Scots in the British Army line infantry order of precedence.
