Nigel Pulsford
Nigel Pulsford (born 11 April 1961) is a British musician, and the original guitarist of the alternative rock band Bush. Early life Pulsford was born in 1961 in Newport, Monmouthshire, and grew up with two sisters, Angela and Jan. (Angela would later play violin on certain Bush songs, as well as on one of Cyndi Lauper's albums.) Pulsford attended Fairfax Academy in Sutton Coldfield and the University of Bradford in Bradford, West Yorkshire before dropping out with the intent of playing in a rock band. Music career Pre-Bush (1979–1992) In 1979, aged 18, Pulsford was involved in various bands with friend Neil Crossley. Performing in pubs and bars in Lancaster, the groups played rhythm and blues, power pop, and what Pulsford termed "fake jazz". In the 1980s, Pulsford joined a female-fronted funk band called Taming The Outback. "Everything Zen" is a single by British grunge band Bush. Released on 28 January 1995, it was the band's first single released under the name "Bush", and their second overall. The single comes from their 1994 debut album, ''Sixteen Stone''. Lyrics The title of the song may reference the poem Howl by Allen Ginsberg which includes the phrase "who vanished into nowhere Zen New Jersey." The lyrics "Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow" are taken from David Bowie's 1971 song "Life on Mars?". "Machinehead" is a song by English rock band Bush, released on 9 April 1996 as the fifth and final single from their 1994 debut album, ''Sixteen Stone''. Music video The music video was directed by Shawn Mortensen in London and Portsmouth. Sections of Shepherd's Bush, where the band members used to live, can be seen in the video. Gavin Rossdale's dog Winston is also in the video. Commercial performance "Machinehead" reached No. 43 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 on 4 May 1996. "Glycerine" is a song by English band Bush. It was released on 14 November 1995 as the fourth single from their debut album, ''Sixteen Stone''. Composition Gavin Rossdale wrote the song about his then-girlfriend, Suze DeMarchi as stated in an interview with Howard Stern. He wrote it in his London flat, feeling that there was an ancient, mystical element to the song as it was coming together. He told ''Entertainment Weekly'' in 2017 that "I was like a conduit. Something about it was bigger than anything we were doing." The song is in the key of F major. "Comedown" is a song by British rock band Bush, released on 26 September 1995 as the third single from their debut album, ''Sixteen Stone''. Composition Gavin Rossdale wrote the song about an ex-girlfriend, stating, "It was written in the context of half regret, half celebration and just being objective about the situation of coming down from that high and dealing with those intense emotions." Gavin McGregor Rossdale (born 30 October 1965) is an English guitarist and actor, best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Bush. He helped form Bush in 1992; on the band's separation in 2002, he became the lead singer and guitarist for Institute and later began a solo career. He resumed his role in Bush when the band reunited in 2010. In 2013, he received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement. CBGB was a New York City music club opened in 1973 by Hilly Kristal in Manhattan's East Village. The club was previously a biker bar and before that was a dive bar.
