Nigel Lamb
Nigel Lamb (born 17 August 1956) is an English aerobatics pilot and the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Champion. Early life Lamb was born in the Eastern Highlands of Southern Rhodesia and was inspired to fly by his father, a Royal Air Force fighter pilot iduringWorld War II. , and persisted until he was finally accepted at 18, in 1975, having finished his schooling at Umtali Boy's High School. Career After gaining his wings he did an Operational Conversion on de Havilland Vampire jets before becoming a helicopter pilot, flying the Alouette II and Alouette III and Augusta Bell UH1-H in the Rhodesian Bush War. P-40 Kittyhawk
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground-attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous Curtiss P-36 Hawk which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service. Competition aerobatics is an air sport in which ground-based judges rate the skill of pilots performing aerobatic flying. It is practised in both piston-powered single-engine airplanes and also gliders. An aerobatic competition is sanctioned by a national aero club, its designee, or in the case of international competitions, by CIVA, the Commission Internationale de Voltige Aerienne, which is a constituent body of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI). The sanctioning body establishes the rules that apply to the competition, including entry qualifications for all participants, operating procedures, and judging criteria. The 2015 Red Bull Air Race World Championship was the tenth Red Bull Air Race World Championship series, contested over eight events in seven countries held between February and October. British pilot Paul Bonhomme won his third world title by five points, after winning half of the eight races. His closest challenger was Australian pilot Matt Hall, and the pair finished well clear at the top of the championship. Bonhomme won the opening two races of the season in Abu Dhabi and Chiba, before an eighth-place finish – his worst result of the season – in Rovinj, saw Hall tie his points tally with three podium finishes. 2010 Red Bull Air Race World Championship
The 2010 Red Bull Air Race World Championship was the eighth official Red Bull Air Race World Championship series. Paul Bonhomme became champion for the second successive year, finishing each of the six rounds of the championship in the top three placings, two of which were victories. Hannes Arch was the only other round winner, taking four victories but finished four points behind Bonhomme, after an eleventh-place finish in the season-opener in the United Arab Emirates. 2007 Red Bull Air Race World Series Season
The 2007 Red Bull Air Race World Series was the fifth Red Bull Air Race World Series season. New pilots Sergey Rakhmanin of Russia and Austrian Hannes Arch were chosen to join the 2007 series after completing a qualification course in October 2006, held in Arizona, United States. This takes the number of pilots to 13. Race calendar Three locations more were added to the race calendar in 2007, extending the number of rounds from 9 to 12. However, only 10 races were run due to cancellation of the legs in Barcelona, Spain and Acapulco, Mexico. The first race was held on April 6 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and the last one was on November 3 in Perth, Australia. 2006 Red Bull Air Race World Series Season
The 2006 Red Bull Air Race World Championship was the fourth Red Bull Air Race season and second as a World Championship. It began on March 18, 2006, and ended on November 19. In the 2006 season Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Zeltweg in Austria, and Rock of Cashel in Ireland were removed from the calendar. The number of races increased from seven to nine. The new places were Barcelona in Spain, Berlin in Germany, Saint Petersburg in Russia, Istanbul in Turkey and Perth in Australia. Only eight of the races were held after the cancellation of the 4th leg in Saint Petersburg. The race in Longleat, United Kingdom was also cancelled due to high winds, however, Friday's Qualifying results were used as the official race results. Michael Goulian from the US, who had paused in 2005, returned in 2006 to compete again as the 11th pilot. The 2005 Red Bull Air Race World Series was the third Red Bull Air Race World Series season. It began on April 8, 2005 and ended on October 8. In the 2005 season, the RAF Kemble in the United Kingdom was replaced by Longleat and Reno, Nevada in the United States with San Francisco, California. The number of race locations grew from three to seven by adding Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Zeltweg in Austria and Rock of Cashel in Ireland. The previous year's competitors from the USA, Michael Goulian and Martin David, did not participate in the 2005 season. British Nigel Lamb joined the Red Bull Air Race from the Longleat leg onwards.
