Nicoya Airport
Nicoya Airport is an airport serving the city of Nicoya in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica. The airport is owned and managed by the country's Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The asphalt runway is long, and has very basic facilities to receive small airplanes and passengers. There are nearby hills south and west of the runway. The Liberia VOR-DME (Ident: LIB) is located north-northwest of the airport. Passenger Statistics Although Nicoya Airport serves the main city in the Nicoya Peninsula, there are no scheduled domestic or international service to the airport. Guanacaste Province
Guanacaste () is a province of Costa Rica located in the northwestern region of the country, along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. It is bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Alajuela Province to the east, and Puntarenas Province to the southeast. It is the most sparsely populated of all the provinces of Costa Rica. VOR-DME
In radio navigation, a VOR/DME is a radio beacon that combines a VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) with a distance-measuring equipment (DME). The VOR allows the receiver to measure its bearing to or from the beacon, while the DME provides the slant distance between the receiver and the station. Together, the two measurements allow the receiver to compute a position fix. The VOR system was first introduced in the 1930s, but didn't enter significant commercial use until the early 1950s. It became much more practical with the introduction of low-cost Solid state (electronics), solid state receivers in the 1960s. DME was a modification of World War II-era navigation systems like Gee-H, and began development in 1946. Nicoya Peninsula
The Nicoya Peninsula () is a peninsula on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is divided into two provinces: Guanacaste Province in the north, and the Puntarenas Province in the south. It is located at . It varies from 19 to wide and is approximately long, forming the largest peninsula in the country. It is known for its beaches and is a popular tourist destination. There are many modes of transport in Costa Rica but the country's infrastructure has suffered from a lack of maintenance and new investment.
