Nicolai Jacob Marstrand
Nicolai Jacob Marstrand (5 August 1770 – 12 July 1829) was a Danish mechanician and inventor. He was the father of painter Wilhelm Marstrand. Early life and education Marstrand was born on 5 August 1776 in Østerdalen, Norway, the son of manager (''bergskriver'') of Inset Copperworks Even Nicolai Marstrand (1723–85) and Magdalene Elisabeth Schnitler (1730–1802). The family moved to Trondheim when his father died in 1785. He graduated from Trondheim Cathedral School in 1789. Career Aged 20, Marstrand came to Denmark, where he initially worked odd jobs, for instance as a private tutor and a road assistant, before being employed as an assistant under colonel Eilert Tscherning at Frederick's Works. He was later promoted to mechanical consultant to the government, settling in Copenhagen in 1806. Wilhelm Marstrand
Nicolai Wilhelm Marstrand (24 December 1810 – 25 March 1873), painter and illustrator, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Nicolai Jacob Marstrand, instrument maker and inventor, and Petra Othilia Smith. Marstrand is one of the most renowned artists belonging to the Golden Age of Danish Painting. Early development and academy training Marstrand studied at Copenhagen's Metropolitan School (''Metropolitanskolen''), but had little interest in books, and left around 16 years of age. Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, painter and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Art (''Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi'') in Copenhagen, was a close friend of Wilhelm's father, and it was to all appearance Eckersberg who recommended an artistic career for young Wilhelm. Troels Marstrand
Troels Marstrand (13 May 1815 – 23 August 1889) was a Danish industrialist. Early life and education Marstrand was born on 13 May 1815 in Copenhagen, the son of mechanician Nicolai Jacob Marstrand (1770–1829) and Petra O. Smith (1778–1847). He was the brother of painter Vilhelm Marstrand and naval officer Osvald J. Marstrand. Their father ran a bakery in Silkegade. It was continued by his mother after his father's death in 1920. After his confirmation, Marstrand initially worked in his uncle's office in Skælskør before apprenticing as a baker in Køge. Career In 1835 Marstrand travelled to Germany as a journeyman and worked for some time in Berlin. Back in Denmark in 1837, Marstrand started working as a clerk for the police master in Helsingør before taking over the family's bakery in Silkegade in 1839. Marstrand Family
Marstrand () is a seaside locality situated in Kungälv Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It had 1,320 inhabitants in 2010. The town got its name from its location on the island of Marstrand. Despite its small population, for historical reasons Marstrand is often referred to as a ''city''. The town has expanded to the neighbouring island of Koön, which has bridge access to the mainland. The city had free port status, which was declared by King Gustav III, from 1775 to 1794.
