Nicola Jürgensen
Nicola Jürgensen (born 1975) is a German clarinetist and academic teacher. She played principal clarinet with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne from 2001 to 2018, and has been professor of clarinet at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen from 2018. She is active internationally as a soloist and chamber music player, and has made recordings. Besides the traditional repertoire, she is focused on contemporary music. She performed on stage in a production of Karlheinz Stockhausen's '' Michaels Reise um die Erde'' in Vienna and New York City, among others. Life Jürgensen was born in Bangkok and grew up in Hamburg. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Hans Deinzer and from 1996 at the Lübeck Academy of Music with Sabine Meyer. The Deutscher Musikwettbewerb (German music competition; ) is a national music competition in Germany for classical soloists and chamber music ensembles held annually by the Deutscher Musikrat (German Music Council). It was first held in 1975 and is considered the most important competition for young musicians in Germany. The instrumental categories vary, and an extra prize is given for compositions. In even years the competition takes place in Bonn, where the Musikrat is based, and in the other years in a different German town. Award winners not only receive monetary awards but also long-term sponsorship and support through the Musikrat, including the opportunity to perform in concerts, record CDs and recommendations to perform with orchestras as soloists. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) is a symphony orchestra based in Auckland, New Zealand. Its principal concert venue is the Auckland Town Hall. The APO is the accompanying ensemble for performances by New Zealand Opera, NZ Opera and the Royal New Zealand Ballet in Auckland. Violin Concerto (Nielsen)
Carl Nielsen's ''Concerto for Violin and orchestra, op. 33 [D.F.61]'' was written for Hungary, Hungarian violinist Dr. Emil Telmányi, Nielsen's son-in-law, in 1911. Unusually, the concerto has two movements, both opening with a slower prelude. Background The ''Concerto for Violin and Orchestra'', Opus 33, was not an easy assignment for Nielsen. He began writing it in the summer of 1911 in Bergen, Norway, where he was spending some time at the invitation of Nina Grieg. It progressed with some difficulty as Nielsen, now back in his native Denmark, commented that the concerto "has to be good music, and yet always make allowances for the activity of the solo instrument in the best light, that is rich in content, popular and dazzling without becoming superficial." David Geffen Hall is a concert hall in New York City's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts complex on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The 2,200-seat auditorium opened in 1962, and is the home of the New York Philharmonic. The facility, designed by Max Abramovitz, was originally named Philharmonic Hall and was renamed Avery Fisher Hall in honor of philanthropist Avery Fisher, who donated $10.5 million ($ million today) to the orchestra in 1973.
