NickToons
Nicktoons is a collective name used by Nickelodeon for their original animated series. All Nicktoons are produced partly at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio and list Nickelodeon's parent company (Viacom, now known as Paramount Global) in their copyright bylines. Since its launch in the late 1970s, Nickelodeon's schedule incorporated animation produced by other companies. The channel did not invest into its own original cartoon series until 1989, when producer Vanessa Coffey visited Los Angeles to accept pitches from local animators. Geraldine Laybourne, the channel's then-president, greenlit three pitches for full series: '' Doug'', ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'', and ''Rugrats''. On August 11, 1991, the three cartoons premiered as part of a 90-minute block, becoming the first branded Nicktoons. ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'' (also known as ''Ren & Stimpy'') is an American animated television series created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi. Originally produced by Spümcø for Nickelodeon, the series aired from August 11, 1991, to December 16, 1995, with a total of five seasons and 52 episodes. The series follows the adventures of Ren Höek, an emotionally unstable and sociopathic chihuahua dog; and Stimpy, a good-natured and dimwitted manx cat. Vanessa Coffey
Vanessa Coffey is an American film producer best known for her work on ''Rugrats'', ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'', '' Doug'' and ''Rocko's Modern Life''. Coffey has won two Daytime Emmy Awards and a CableACE Award. Career Marvel Animation Coffey's film career began at Marvel Animation working on television shows including ''Transformers'', ''G.I. Joe, Muppet Babies'' and ''Defenders of the Earth.'' Coffey later moved to Murakami-Wolf-Swenson where she worked on the development of the television show ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.'' Nickelodeon and Nicktoons Coffey says that after leaving Murakami-Wolf-Swenson, she did not want to do animation anymore because everything was either modeled after pre-existing comic strips or a vessel for selling related products. In media, a spin-off (or spinoff) is a radio program, television program, film, video game or any narrative work, derived from already existing works that focus on more details and different aspects from the original work (e.g. particular topics, characters or events). John Kricfalusi
Michael John Kricfalusi ( ; born September 9, 1955), known professionally as John K., is a Canadian illustrator, blogger, voice actor and former animator. He is the creator of the animated television series ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'', which was highly influential on televised animation during the 1990s. From 1989 to 1992, he was heavily involved with the first two seasons of the show in virtually every aspect of its production, including providing the voice of Ren Höek and other characters. In 2009, he won the Inkpot Award. Born in Quebec, Kricfalusi spent his early childhood in Germany and Belgium before returning to Canada at age seven. He acquired his skills largely by copying cartoons from newspapers and comic books as a child, and by studying cartoons and their production systems from the 1940s and 1950s. Arlene Klasky
Arlene Phyllis Klasky (born May 26, 1949) is an American animator, graphic designer, producer and co-founder of Klasky Csupo with Gábor Csupó. In 1999, she was named one of the "Top 25 Women in Animation" by ''Animation Magazine''. She is most known for her work with Nickelodeon in the 1990s and 2000s. Jim Jinkins
James Jinkins (born August 8, 1953) is an American animator, cartoonist, and children's author. He is best known as the creator of the animated '' Doug'' television series which was later the basis for a feature film. Jinkins also created ''PB&J Otter'', as well as several other shows produced by his two companies, Jumbo Pictures and Cartoon Pizza. Background and career Jinkins was born in Richmond, Virginia, and lived there during his childhood. ''Christmas in Tattertown'' is a 1988 animated television Christmas special created and directed by Ralph Bakshi. The special was an unsold pilot episode for a series, ''Tattertown'', about a place where everything discarded in the world came alive. Ralph Bakshi
Ralph Bakshi (born October 29, 1938) is an American animator and filmmaker. In the 1970s, he established an alternative to mainstream animation through independent and adult-oriented productions. Between 1972 and 1992, he directed nine theatrically released feature films, five of which he wrote. He has been involved in numerous television projects as director, writer, producer, and animator. Beginning his career at the Terrytoons television cartoon studio as a cel polisher, Bakshi was eventually promoted to animator, and then director. He moved to the animation division of Paramount Pictures in 1967 and started his own studio, Bakshi Productions, in 1968. Through producer Steve Krantz, Bakshi made his debut feature film, ''Fritz the Cat'', released in 1972.
