Carl Nickle
Lieutenant Carl Olof Nickle (July 12, 1914 in Winnipeg, Manitoba – December 5, 1990) was an editor and publisher, oil baron, soldier in the Canadian Army and served as a Canadian federal politician from 1951 to 1957. Nickle served a nine-year career in the Canadian Forces. He joined in 1939 and served in the Calgary Highlanders achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Nickle left the Army in 1948. Nickle first ran for a seat in the House of Commons of Canada in a by-election held in the electoral district of Calgary West on December 10, 1951. Nickle won the by-election and his first term in office by a comfortable margin. Calgary's electoral boundaries would be redistributed at the drop of the writ for the 1953 federal election. He would run in the new electoral district of Calgary South and be re-elected defeating 4 other candidates. He retired from federal politics at the end of his second term in 1957. Don Nickles
Donald Lee Nickles (born December 6, 1948) is an American politician and lobbyist who was a Republican United States Senator from Oklahoma from 1981 to 2005. He was considered both a fiscal and social conservative. After retiring from the Senate as the longest-serving senator from Oklahoma up until that point, he founded the Nickles Group, a lobbying firm. Early life Nickles was born and raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma, the son of Coeweene (Bryan) and Robert C. Nichols. He attended Ponca City public schools. To help pay for their education at Oklahoma State University, he and his wife, the former Linda Lou Morrison, operated Don Nickles Professional Cleaning Service in Stillwater. Douglas Alan Nickle (born October 2, 1974) is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher. He was born in Sonoma, California. He played for the Philadelphia Phillies (–) and the San Diego Padres () of the National League during his Major League Baseball career. Nickle attended the University of California where he played college baseball. He batted and threw right-handed during his career. Career Doug Nickle was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 13th round of the 1997 amateur draft on June 3, 1997. Robert Nickle
Robert Wienert Nickle (May 22, 1919 – November 12, 1980) was a 20th-century American artist known primarily for his "street scrap" collage work. Nickle was born in Saginaw, Michigan. In 1943, he graduated from the University of Michigan where he studied architecture and design. Robert Nickle (British Army Officer)
Major-General Sir Robert Nickle, KH (12 August 1786 – 26 May 1855 ) was a commander of the forces in Australia. Nickle was born at sea, the son of Robert Nicholl, an officer in the 17th Light Dragoons, and entered the army at an early age. He served with the Connaught Rangers in various parts of the world for upwards of twenty-two years, seeing much hard service and winning great distinction for bravery. Nickle went to the West Indies in 1830, and was appointed Governor of St. Christopher and its dependencies. He served during the insurrection in British North America in 1838, and was knighted in 1844. In 1853 he was appointed commander of the forces in Australia, and during the Eureka Rebellion of 1854 displayed great forbearance and tact. Sonny Nickle (born 4 May 1969) is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. William Folger Nickle
William Folger Nickle KC (December 31, 1869 - November 15, 1957) was a Canadian politician who served both as a member of the House of Commons of Canada and in the Ontario legislature where he rose to the position of Attorney-General of Ontario. He is best known for the Nickle Resolution that ended the practice of knighthoods and peerages being awarded to Canadians. Born in Kingston, Ontario, the son of William Nickle, Nickle was educated at Queen's University and Osgoode Hall. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1896 and set up a law practice in Kingston. William McAdam Nickle
William McAdam Nickle (January 4, 1897 – December 10, 1968) was an Ontario political figure. He represented Kingston in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1951 to 1963 as a Progressive Conservative member. He was born in Kingston, Ontario, the son of William Folger Nickle, and educated there and at Osgoode Hall. In 1925, he married Grace Dunlop. European Green Woodpecker
The European green woodpecker (''Picus viridis'') is a large green woodpecker with a bright red crown and a black moustache. Males have a red centre to the moustache stripe which is absent in females. It is resident across much of Europe and the western Palearctic but in Spain and Portugal it is replaced by the similar Iberian green woodpecker (''Picus sharpei''). The European green woodpecker spends much of its time feeding on ants on the ground and does not often 'drum' on trees like other woodpecker species. Though its vivid green and red plumage is particularly striking, it is a shy bird, and is more often heard than seen, drawing attention with its loud calls. A nest hole is excavated in a tree; four to six eggs are laid which hatch after 19–20 days.
