Nick McCallum
Nick McCallum is an Australian television and radio journalist. As a broadcast journalist, McCallum works as a senior reporter with the Seven Network and as a part-time presenter for Melbourne radio station 3AW. He has also produced documentaries for Fox Footy. Early days McCallum was educated at Scotch College, Melbourne, and from an early age wanted to become a journalist. He is quoted as saying "News was so much more interesting than maths". During his time at Scotch he was involved in the schools sporting program and edited the school newspaper. Television McCallum spent part of his early career at Network Ten, reporting as part of their news bulletin. 3AW Presenters
3AW is a talkback radio station based in Melbourne. It broadcasts on 693 kHz AM. It began transmission on 22 February 1932 as Melbourne's fifth commercial radio station. The station is owned and operated by Nine Entertainment Co. History 3AW was established when a company formed by Allans, JC Williamson's and David Syme (then publishers of ''The Age'' newspaper) was granted a radio broadcasting licence, with the first broadcast on 22 February 1932. The A in 3AW comes from the names of "Allans" and "The "Age"; and the W is from "J. C. Williamson". 3AW's first studio was situated in His Majesty's Theatre from whence it broadcast from 1932 to 1935. 3AW's original broadcast frequency was 1425 kHz and changed to 1280 kHz on 1 September 1935 as part of a national reshuffle of the radio broadcasting spectrum. Ronald Ryan
Ronald Joseph Ryan (21 February 1925 – 3 February 1967) was the last person to be legally executed in Australia. Ryan was found guilty of shooting and killing warder George Hodson during an escape from Pentridge Prison, Victoria, in 1965. Ryan's hanging was met with public protests by those opposed to capital punishment. Capital punishment was abolished in all states by 1985. HM Prison Pentridge
HM Prison Pentridge was an Australian prison that was first established in 1851 in Coburg, Victoria. The first prisoners arrived in 1851. The prison officially closed on 1 May 1997. Pentridge was often referred to as the "Bluestone College", "Coburg College" or "College of Knowledge". The grounds were originally landscaped by landscape gardener Hugh Linaker. The site is currently split into two parts.
