Nick Itkin
Nick Itkin (born October 9, 1999) is an American right-handed foil fencer, two-time NCAA champion, 2022 team Pan American champion, and 2021 team Olympic bronze medalist. He won a bronze medal in individual men's foil at the 2022 senior World Fencing Championships in Cairo, Egypt. Early life Itkin was born in Pacific Palisades, California, grew up in Los Angeles, and is Jewish. His parents are Michael ("Misha"; a fencing coach) and Tatiana (a former rhythmic gymnast, and current coach). His older sister Julia competed in rhythmic gymnastics for the US national team. He attended Palisades High School, graduating in 2017. Fencing career 2015-19; Junior World Champion Itkin trains under his father at Los Angeles International Fencing Center, which his father founded in 2003. The men's foil event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 26 July 2021 at the Makuhari Messe. 36 fencers from 18 nations competed in this event. Background This was the 28th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics except 1908 (when there was a foil display only rather than a medal event). The reigning Olympic champion was Daniele Garozzo of Italy. The reigning World Champion was Enzo Lefort of France. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter up to 3 qualified fencers in the men's foil. Nations were limited to three fencers each from 1928 to 2004. Daniele Garozzo (; born 4 August 1992) is an Italian right-handed foil fencer. Garozzo is a 2022 team European champion, two-time individual European champion, and four-time team world champion. A two-time Olympian, Garozzo is a 2021 individual Olympic silver medalist and 2016 individual Olympic champion. He is the younger brother of Italian épée fencer Enrico Garozzo. Career Garozzo won the 2008 Cadet World Championships at home in Acireale, then took a silver medal in the 2011 and 2012 Junior World Championships. Enzo Lefort (born 29 September 1991) is a French right-handed foil fencer. Lefort is a four-time team European champion, 2014 team world champion, and two-time individual world champion. A three-time Olympian, Lefort is a 2016 team Olympic silver medalist and 2021 team Olympic champion. Lefort competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Career Lefort was born in French Guiana. A gold medal is a medal awarded for highest achievement in a non-military field. Its name derives from the use of at least a fraction of gold in form of plating or alloying in its manufacture.
