Nicholson Township is a township in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,728 at the 2020 census, down from 1,805 at the 2010 census. The Albert Gallatin Area School District serves the township. New Geneva, Martin, Gallatin, Old Frame, Bowood, Woodside, and Grays Landing are communities in the township. History Nicholson Township was created in 1853 from portions of Springhill Township, German Township, and Georges Township, all of which are also located within Fayette County. Southern Nicholson Township is the location of an archaeological site, the Deffenbaugh Site. Its work encompasses the creation of new instruments as well as historical restorations, rebuilds and renovations. In 2013, the firm completed the first wholly new instrument in a British cathedral since 1962 at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff. History The Nicholsons were a family of organ builders originating from Rochdale, Lancashire, in the North of England. John Nicholson moved to Worcester in 1840 and soon afterwards he moved his workshop to Palace Yard, close to the cathedral. History The brewery was founded in 1840 by William Nicholson (1820–1916), son of successful businessman Robert Nicholson. The brewery was based in the centre of town with an extensive frontage on the High Street. At their peak in the 1900s, Nicholson's possessed 150 tied pubs. Fanny Nicholson
''Fanny Nicholson'' was an iron-framed, timber-clad barque that sank in 1872 in Frenchman's Bay in King George Sound near Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The barque was built in Hartlepool in County Durham. It was fitted with one deck, a poop deck, an elliptical stern and a figurehead in the shape of a woman. It was copper-fastened, sheathed with felt and yellow metal. The ship required repairs in 1856 and 1861 for damage incurred while in operation. During its early years of service it was sailed from Liverpool to destinations in South America and was sailed to Australia arriving in 1859. It was operating as a whaler out of Hobart in 1871, owned by Captain John McArthur and William Andrews. The ship struck a whale on 21 November 1872 while en route from Hobart to Albany. History 1963-2000 The company was founded by Bryan Skinner in 1963 as Crest Homes and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1968. Nicholson (Martian Crater)
Nicholson is a crater on Mars centered at 0.1° N and 164.5° W. It is wide, and located in the Memnonia quadrangle. Nicholson is a good marker for the equator as it sits almost directly on the martian equator. It is named after Seth Barnes Nicholson, an American astronomer. Nicholson is notable for its central peak, which rises in a high mound 3.5 km above the crater floor. This rounded peak is riddled with channels, which may have been eroded by wind or even water.
