Nichiren (film)
is a 1979 Japanese film directed by Noboru Nakamura. Produced by Masaichi Nagata Based on Matsutarō Kawaguchi's novel. The film chronicles the life of Japanese Buddhist monk of the Kamakura period, Nichiren. Nichiren is the final film Noboru Nakamura directed. Noboru Nakamura
was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Biography After graduating from Tokyo Imperial University in 1936, Nakamura joined the Shochiku film studios, working as an assistant director for Torajirō Saitō and Yasujirō Shimazu. He debuted as director in 1941 with ''Life and Rhythm'', and finally received recognition with his 1951 film ''Home Sweet Home''. His most noted works include the Yasunari Kawabata adaptation ''Twin Sisters of Kyoto'' (1963), ''The Kii River'' (1966) and ''Portrait of Chieko'' (1968). Both ''Twin Sisters of Kyoto'' and ''Portrait of Chieko'' were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film His 1967 film ''Lost Spring'' was entered into the 17th Berlin International Film Festival. Kō Nishimura
was a Japanese actor who appeared in supporting roles in such films as Akira Kurosawa's ''The Bad Sleep Well'' and '' Yojimbo'', Kihachi Okamoto's ''Sword of Doom'', Yoshitaro Nomura's ''Zero Focus'', and Kon Ichikawa's '' The Burmese Harp'' (where he was credited as Akira Nishimura). Nishimura made his film debut in the Shin Saburi film ''Fusetsu Nijyunen'' in 1951. He won the Blue Ribbon Awards for best supporting actor in 1964 for Unholy Desire directed by Shohei Imamura. In 1982, he won the Best Actor award in the Mainichi Film Awards for his performances in ''Matagi''. In Japan, Nishimura is well known for playing the role of the title character in the long-running television jidaigeki series Mito Kōmon from 1983 to 1992. Hideji Ōtaki
was a Japanese actor. He has served as President of the Mingei Theatre Company. Career After serving in World War II, he became interested in the theater and helped found the Gekidan Mingei troupe in 1950. He gained fame for his television work from the 1970s, but he also appeared in many films, especially those of Juzo Itami. His last film, ''Anata e'', starring Ken Takakura, was released a few months before his death. He died of lung cancer at his home in Tokyo on 2 October 2012. Kanjūrō Arashi
was a Japanese film actor. His nickname was "Arakan." He is famous for playing the role of '' Kurama Tengu'' sereies. He entered the film industry in 1927 and came to fame playing Kurama Tengu, a character in the Bakumatsu era created by Jirō Osaragi in his novels. is an American-born Japanese actress. She is best known for playing the lead role of Gorgeous in the 1977 film ''House''. Early life Born in Manhattan, New York City, United States to Japanese parents, she moved to Kyoto at age 3. Kimiko graduated from Horikoshi High School in Nakano, Tokyo and subsequently attended Tamagawa University. Takeshi Katō (actor)
was a Japanese stage and film actor. He appeared in more than 100 films. Career Graduating from Waseda University, Katō first became a middle school teacher, but then joined the Bungakuza theater troupe in 1952.
