: ''For information on all Niagara University sports, see Niagara Purple Eagles'' The Niagara Purple Eagles men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Niagara University. The Purple Eagles are a member of Atlantic Hockey. They play at the Dwyer Arena in Lewiston, New York. History After several years of playing at the club level, the team turned varsity in the 1996–97 season, which they played as independent. In 1999 they became charter members of the College Hockey America, joining two other independent teams (Air Force and Army) and three former Division II teams ( Alabama–Huntsville, Bemidji State and Findlay). Niagara went undefeated in conference play that season, 1999–00, winning the conference tournament and gaining an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament, as the conference did not gain an automatic bid until the 2003 tournament. Jason Lammers
Jason Lammers (born September 11, 1975) is an American ice hockey Coach (ice hockey), coach and former player. He was named as the third coach for Niagara Purple Eagles men's ice hockey, Niagara in the spring of 2017. Career The Pittsburgh native played for the ice hockey team for four seasons while attending State University of New York at Geneseo#Athletics and sports, SUNY-Geneseo. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, BA in history he played two seasons as a professional in the now-defunct West Coast Hockey League, WCHL(West Coast Hockey League). Lammers started his coaching career in 2000 as a volunteer assistant with Clarkson Golden Knights men's ice hockey, Clarkson before taking a full-time assistant position with Hobart Statesmen, Hobart the following year. Jay McKee
Jay McKee (born September 8, 1977) is a Canadian coach and former professional ice hockey defenceman. He last played for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, and was previously with the Buffalo Sabres and the St. Louis Blues. Throughout his career he has been noted among the NHL's best shot-blockers. McKee was born in Kingston, Ontario, but grew up in Loyalist, Ontario. After his retirement from playing, he has served as an assistant coach for the NCAA's Niagara Purple Eagles, American Hockey League's (AHL) Rochester Americans, the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Erie Otters and the OHL's Kitchener Rangers. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team (UND) is the college ice hockey team at the Grand Forks campus of the University of North Dakota. The New Hampshire Wildcats men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of New Hampshire. The Wildcats are a member of Hockey East. They play at the Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, New Hampshire. History Early years The first New Hampshire ice hockey team played in January 1925, winning its first two games in a contest held in Lewiston, Maine. A year later, under the stewardship of Ernest Christensen, UNH played its first home game at the UNH ice rink, an outdoor facility that was completely dependent on cold weather for its surface. Greg Gardner
Gregory Gardner (born November 21, 1975) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former goaltender who is the NCAA Division I record-holder for shutouts in a season (as of 2021). He was the first ever player signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Career When Niagara University began sponsoring men's ice hockey in 1996–97 NCAA Division III men's ice hockey season, 1996, they did so with Gardner as their primary goaltender. The team joined ECAC West for their inaugural season, one of the top conferences in NCAA Division III, Division III, and performed surprisingly well. Gardner helped the team finish second in the conference but, because the team was in its first season of play, they were ineligible for any postseason play. The Alabama–Huntsville Chargers ice hockey (commonly referred to as the UAH Chargers) were an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represented the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
