The Niagara Purple Eagles women's ice hockey team was a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represented Niagara University. The Purple Eagles were a member of College Hockey America. They played at the Dwyer Arena in Niagara University's campus (Lewiston, New York). The Niagara Purple Eagles are athletics teams that represent Niagara University in college sports. Part of the NCAA's Division I, the Purple Eagles field 18 varsity level teams. The Purple Eagles are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Atlantic Hockey. Between 1946 and 1958, Niagara was a member of the Western New York Little Three Conference. The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs women's ice hockey team plays for the University of Minnesota Duluth at the AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minnesota. The team is a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the Division I tier. 2009–10 Niagara Purple Eagles Women's Ice Hockey Season
The Purple Eagles were the third most improved team in the NCAA (behind Quinnipiac and Ohio State, respectively). The Purple Eagles only won 6 games in 2008–09. Compared to 2009–10, the Purple Eagles won 14 games, an 8 win improvement. Jenni Bauer started in net in every game en route to earning First-Team All-CHA honors. Bauer's 2.19 goals against average and .918 save percentage ranked second in the conference. ECAC Hockey is one of the six conferences that compete in NCAA Division I college ice hockey, ice hockey. Dwyer Arena
The Robert and Concetta Dwyer Arena houses two ice surfaces, both 200 x 85 ft., and pro shop on Niagara University's campus in Lewiston, New York, United States. The main rink can seat up to 1,400 people and is the home to the Niagara Purple Eagles men's ice hockey team, which plays in Atlantic Hockey. The arena was formerly home to the women's ice hockey team, which played in College Hockey America. The building was built in 1996. College Hockey America (CHA) is a college ice hockey conference in the United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. The conference is made up of five women’s teams, with two in Pennsylvania; two in New York, and one in Missouri. A former member in Pennsylvania will return in 2023. Niagara University
Niagara University (NU) is a private Catholic university in the Vincentian tradition in Lewiston in Niagara County, New York. It is run by the Congregation of the Mission and has 3,300 undergraduate students in 50 academic programs.
