Niagara Purple Eagles
The Niagara Purple Eagles are athletics teams that represent Niagara University in college sports. Part of the NCAA's Division I, the Purple Eagles field 18 varsity level teams. The Purple Eagles are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Atlantic Hockey. Between 1946 and 1958, Niagara was a member of the Western New York Little Three Conference. In 2012, the women's ice hockey program was replaced by women's track and field. Niagara University
Niagara University (NU) is a private Catholic university in the Vincentian tradition in Lewiston in Niagara County, New York. It is run by the Congregation of the Mission and has 3,300 undergraduate students in 50 academic programs. Approximately half of the students are residents while the other half commute from the surrounding area. It was listed as a census-designated place in 2020. History Founded by the Congregation of the Mission on 21 November 1856 as ''Our Lady of Angels Seminary'', the school moved from Buffalo to its current location on May 1, 1857. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The team formerly played at the now-defunct Niagara Falls Convention and Civic Center from 1973 to 1982 and from 1988 to 1996. History Niagara has played in the NCAA Tournament three times. Tom Cahill (American Football)
Thomas B. Cahill (October 11, 1919 – October 29, 1992) was an American football player and coach who served as the head coach at the United States Military Academy from 1966 to 1973 and at Union College in Schenectady, New York from 1976 to 1979, compiling a career college football record of 51–59–3. During his tenure as head coach at Army, which coincided with the height of the Vietnam War, his teams beat Navy five times. National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association
The National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) is an "incorporated not-for-profit corporation" which operates a national collegiate inline hockey league consisting of five divisions of competition (Division I, Division II, Division III, Junior College Division and B Division). Headquartered in Torrance, California, the NCRHA is the national governing body of college inline hockey. The National Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships is held annually to determine the national champions at the end of each season. National College Lacrosse League
The National College Lacrosse League is a men's lacrosse league comprising mostly Eastern United States college lacrosse clubs (non-varsity). The NCLL is recognized by US Lacrosse as one of the three primary areas of collegiate lacrosse; the others being the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association. National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) formerly the "National Small College Rugby Organization" is a rugby union governing body in the United States. Headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, NCR was created in 2007 by Chip Auscavitch and Steve Cohen to support and encourage the development and organization of small college rugby in the country. In 2020, NSCRO re-branded as "National Collegiate Rugby" as the organization saw massive growth in competition with teams leaving their USA Rugby based leagues for the NCR. American Collegiate Hockey Association
The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is a college ice hockey association. The ACHA's purpose is to be an organization of collegiate affiliated non-varsity programs, which provides structure, regulates operations, and promotes quality in collegiate ice hockey. The ACHA currently has three men's and two women's divisions and includes approximately 450 teams from across the United States. Teams offer few athletic scholarships and typically receive far less university funding. Northeast Collegiate Hockey League
The Northeast Collegiate Hockey League is an ACHA Division I Hockey League consisting of seven teams in the Northeastern United States. A majority of members are located in New York with additional teams coming from New Jersey. History The league was announced on July 19, 2007 with plans to begin its first season later that year. The league's first seven members were Binghamton University, Ithaca College, Penn State Berks, Rutgers University, St. Bonaventure University, SUNY Cortland, and SUNY Oswego. Andy Gojdycz was named the NECHL's first commissioner. Ahead of the 2010–11 season, Syracuse University joined the NECHL from the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League.
